I have a love-hate relationship with social media. its moved our society forward in so many ways, but it's has brought us BACKWARDS in a lot of ways, too.
Social Media basically GAMEIFIES our lives and QUANTIFIES ones worth by number of followers.
It gives us quasi "clout" points and a false sense of self worth that doesn't translate to the REAL WORLD.
This is entirely toxic for many reasons and leads to a "follower" mentality where people overvalue the importance of, and frankly, worship those who are able to attain high follower counts a.k.a influencers.
Overall, I don't f**k with it.
Swipe left/right dating apps on the other hand, have single handedly RUINED dating for me for a handful of reasons.
1. It's almost impossible to actually go out, let alone match, with quality women due to the sheer quantity of options they. Dating apps are quite litterally rigged for women.
2. Even if you DO get to take them out, they have so many others vying for their attention (significantly more than pre-social media times), you are extremely replaceable.
Social media and dating apps have made people able to connect on levels never seen before - but by doing so, it seems they've helped destroy genuine human connection in the process.
Man's preachin!
The sprawling web of superficial connections that SM gives you is in no way an adequate replacement for a close-knit community that brings you a deeper meaning and joy for life.
I hate how all this online s*** is starting to become the norm and the pandemic has only accelerated this, all this social media s*** will also lead to higher rates of mental problems within the younger crowd
there are some dope docs / articles about this out rn
one of the biggest issues is that the apps / sites are designed to get you addicted to the likes / reward system
and the algorithms are designed to show you s*** that has high engagement
and the negative / dumb s*** usually is what people engage with most so
it's pretty nasty
and unfortunate because technology has the potential to truly aid us and push us forward
we just have to be mindful in our design practices and keep our intentions pure
same can be said for politics and all the other ills of the world too tbh
but there is too much money to be made from our demise
it's a damn shame

Yeah SM apps are designed to keep you engaged as long as possible. Stare into the rectangle all day long type s***.
There's a good book about your last point of being mindful. Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. Not too long and it's well worth the read for anyone who feels like they're mindlessly on their phone too much.

We should petition to remove likes
We should petition to remove likes
or, atleast have an option to show them or not
We should petition to remove likes
most of the internet needs an overhaul honestly
i remember when youtube felt wholesome
and you could just find a random video and get a glimpse into people's lives and stories
it was beautiful
i wish it were closer to that now
i certainly wouldn't be mad if likes and view counts weren't customer / viewer facing
and were only accessible to the creators
Oh
It's you
lol im a slightly above average looking dude
Not enough for tinder
S*** completely changed the attractiveness scale of everyone

I do aight on it. I just wish I could hit the BADDEST girls rather than 7s-8s
It also enables ppl to carefully create a self image of how they would like to be perceived by the world, even if that carefully crafted self image is nowhere near to the reality
This op wasn't done well but I'll try my best to offer something that may help us move forward as a society.
Some people choose to play the social media game. If you don't like it, don't play it. Same for online dating, pull up on them in person instead.
If we are going to assume anecdotals are worth a damn to post, here's mine:
Delete all your social media, get on a good exercise regimen, get your money, keep your hygiene polished af, meet up with groups doing things you're interested in and you will have zero problems with the ladies
I signed up for Facebook for the marketplace a few weeks ago and 100% regret it
It was all fun & games until influencers became a thing
