I’m from Newark bro everything you said is facts. The internet helped change a lot but there are still roadblocks for Jersey rappers
That's why I was excited when Fetty Wap blew up because it was very organic stemming from his online buzz and I knew mad niggas who were friends with him in real life.
It felt surreal to see a rapper blow up mainstream right outta my home town.
There’s a page like this that only post obscure Florida music. Love pages like this

You talking about this one??
Just goes to show that marketing and industry push plays a major role in hip hop even from inception.
Being in that NYC, LA, and eventually Atlanta media space is a cheat code when it comes to rap promotion.
Even as someone from New Jersey, many of our rappers needed to essentially be cosigned by NYC labels and rappers to blow up which caused many people to lump NJ rappers and NYC rappers together. I still know niggas to this day outside NJ who think Redman and Method Man hail from the same hometown.
Joe Budden as a rapper from New Jersey repped NYC to the fullest. You just had to back then.

i grew up in az so this is a relevant topic to me
like this has to be the biggest song that has came out of the state IMO but its really only known amongst chicanos
i think a relevant reason for why it never popped off like that is because some places don't have a deep black community (because hip-hop is a predominately black artform), lower population compared to other states and the close proximity to places like california means that ppl just move out there to put their roots in the ground for a musical career and put it down there
i know phoenix and arizona in general has had a buzzing underground for years but nothing that has broken outside of the region
since phoenix is becoming a bigger city @op i know you live out there so i think you might you know what im talking about, maybe something will pop off
its a melting pot of transplants from all around the country, much like the state itself
at least 4 tay gave us a shoutout
"I'd rather kick it with the crew in Arizona, they chop game like we do in California"
good thread, the 'local' understanding of hip hop is vastly different from how we talk about it on the internet. a big reason why i got on biggie and hov albums kinda late was that people around me never cared to listen to them and instead preferred stuff like onyx and krs one plus local music their friends made. that resulted in a ton of random s*** like finding out people would use old evidence beats from his dilated peoples era for their mixtapes, or later finding out that one joint you know locally used an alchemist beat as you go back through his old beat tapes

i be in tucson a lot too and still go to the bay sometimes and LA once in a while
TDE actually just signed a girl singer/rapper with an alt rock influence back in September, Alemeda, and iirc she just moved to LA and also produced an EP for "FK IT"
and they plan to do stuff with her next year - the westcoast initiative is in full affect
