What are your views on older music, genres other than rap and the state of mainstream music right now? Additionally, do you listen to music for beats, substance, melodies, etc.? I'm asking because I'm interested in the collective view our generation has on music in general and also because we grew up in the age of the internet, giving us access to all the music we could imagine. Thoughts?
I like older music. Mostly Soul music and some rock
Ill listen to anything but my favorite genres outside of rap are RnB and Pop
Combination of all three
Dust tbh the only 00’s artists I listen to are
Kanye
Wayne
Jay Z
Pharrell
Cudi
Drake
etc
Other than that I only listen to from 2010’s onwards
I like it. I understand it was a different time and music evolves. It was more creative as well
But anyways
I like older music, I didn’t start listening to music seriously until like 08-09, mainly just hip hop/r&b and pop.
I truthfully haven’t listened to as many older musicians outside of the big ones as I’d like, but I still like to eventually listen. I do respect the impact they had on the culture tho
I like a lot of older and newer music. I listen to music for all of the things you listed. I enjoy good lyricism, but can appreciate non-lyrical music if the vocal delivery, cadence, and production is on point. My two favorite artists currently are Bob Dylan and Young Thug.
I love 90s hip hop as well. I haven’t heard much 80s hip hop but I’ve always meant to try and get in to it. I’ve really just listened Eric b and rakim and slick rick
after finding out I'm into Death Grips, I'm convinced I have the most abstract music taste of all time. in the next 5 minutes I guarantee I'll go from listening to Death Grips to listening to Chief Keef.
I’d say the oldest artist (rap wise) I consistently listen to is OutKast
But I grew up on Wayne, T.I., Kanye, Future, Drake, and Ross

Nigga ain’t you dust?
For me personally, before I grew up a bit I would just listen to rap from the early 2000's onward and didn't care to take my time looking for other music. After getting a bit older I phased my way out from rap to rnb and now psychadelic rock. I gotta say though, it was outside influences in rap that shifted me in this direction. Also the rap I listen to now is more conscious and mature, I feel like writing has became important to me as well.
