I feel like before then it was kind of an arms race among the good rap artists to make the dopest most creative album mfs could muster. Then s*** like MBDTF, GKMC, Yeezus, and TPAB dropped and mfs just collectively went "we can't top this s***, lets just make trap, pop rap, and dusty coke rap" and critics all collectively went "nothing will ever be better than this, everything is a 5/10"

There’s nothing I hate more than a artist saying “I’m a huge fan of this guy, he was a huge influence” yet their music bares zero resemblance

It’s why I used to immediately write off any SoundCloud rapper saying Marilyn Manson or whatever is a huge influence. S*** is just lies lol

I disagree and many 90s/2000s artists would as well lmfao. this whole separation started when critics opinions started being taken seriously (blog era) to where young niggas like Tyler who were inspired by a nigga like Pharrell was getting s***ted on by critics who controlled these platforms
