To the extent Kendrick and Kanye killed the genre, it would primarily be due to the fact they brought a bunch of indie rock hipsters and pop heads into hip hop and now we have to listen to you all b**** and moan constantly, acting like experts despite secretly having the utmost disdain for the genre and culture

there’s a new version of this thread every month

someone blames x rapper for a brilliant project, claiming it broke the genre. other users blame/shit on other artists not named in op to further agendas. rinse and repeat.

Ion even care for Smino much, but the concept of, and themes behind, Luv 4 Rent were pretty great. Very relatable album for those struggling with re-discovering and loving themselves after loss

and I'm not talking about the glimpses of peak rap we got (mmlp, grodt, c2, mbdtf, gkmc etc), but about the scene slowly becoming more homogenized due to commercialization and the lack of diversity and creativity across different mcs

Yup, his rapping is much better on Damn, from the flows, cadence, lyrics.

Just a better album imo, always rated it fairly higher than most.

Fair enough, that’s your opinion and I can’t argue that. Respect

mmlp and eminem in general belong in the same category as biggie and kendrick, like their greatness is so unique that it barely influenced the general sound of hip hop as a whole cuz no one could convincingly replicate them
