What’s really going to matter is the rust belt. If Biden wins that back then he’ll win the election. He’s leading in the polls currently (between 2 and 4 point lead). But Hillary led in the polls all the way through the election, and Trumps got 6 more months to drag Biden down. And I don’t think Trump can really get brought down much more than he is currently or was in 2016. Definitely gonna be interesting

Obama admin trade deals going to come back and bite Biden in the ass just like it did Hillary in the rust belt. TPP will be the new nafta for this cycle and trump will lean into it hard.

WI and MI were such close margins that they will be probably toss ups until November. High primary turnout in those states make it seem like they’ll swing blue but trump had big incumbent numbers too. If trump can hang onto those states dem leadership should face a firing squad.

Clinton was polling to win by 6.5 in Wisconsin and ended up losing by 0.7, so the polls were off by 7.2 points.

Michigan was off by 3.9 (3.6 Clinton lead, 0.3 Trump win).

Pennsylvania was off by 2.8 (2.1 lead to 0.7 Trump win).

Biden’s lead in the polls currently is 2.7 in Wisconsin, 4.4 in Michigan, and 3.8 in Pennsylvania.

There hasn’t been an update to the polls in a month and a lot has changed since then (Bernie dropping out, coronavirus and Trump’s approval actually increasing in the meantime).

All that to say if the polls are off by as much as they were in 2016, Biden would win back most of the rust belt but still lose Wisconsin. If that happened you would have Trump win with exactly 270 electoral college votes

Granted, there are other states he could try to win that were pretty narrow losses in 2016. Democrats have a lot more states that they almost won in 2016 than Trump does.

Hard to say from this far out. Clinton was leading by more at this point in 2016, Biden could totally implode or Trump’s approval could go way up if the economy bounces back at the right time. It’s possible he picks up more states but I think rn it’s more likely he carries the same states as 2016 aside from MI and PA.
