I mean... there is pretty strong evidence that Trump’s team had a quid pro quo relationship in some capacity with a hostile foreign government to harm her in the 2016 election. The fact that people are willing to downplay that because of Hillary memes is the more ridiculous part.

sure trumps corruption in russia extends back to the 80s and 90s with sketchy real estate deals. of course russia also had a strong interest in outcome of US election and wanted to influence it.

but the extent of interference extends to what? potentially a few thousand facebook ads that didnt have high traffic/engagement? how does this also account for the house and senate elections? did the russians convince 90k people in michigan to vote down ballot but leave the presidential ballot blank?

the biggest influences in 2016 is what it has always been - corporate sectors and lobbyists, which is the quid pro quo elephant in the room no one talks about. thomas ferguson has done a lot of interesting research for the driving corporate financial interests in 2016 election. between trump and russia tho, that accusation kind of loses weight when trump has increased military action on russian borders or pulling out of the inf treaty. any potential corruption of trump is smaller in scale than the current campaign finance system that has driven us politics for decades. steele dossier also has a lot of holes and it was revealed recently that the crowdstrike ceo (sole tech company that investigated dnc leaks) said in depositions that there was no evidence of russian hacking despite his public claims.

america's also intervened in foreign elections and overthrown governments so we're no innocent victim. particularly in russia. clinton boasted about us influence in 96 russia election for boris yeltsin.

There is credible evidence that points to Russian being responsible for the DNC phishing/hack. That is way more far-reaching than memes and FB ads. It’s hard to say what the scope is, but in an election that was so tight, you can’t really say it had no effect.

The fact that Trump’s team operates so brazenly and in the open and people are still among excuses for it kid of blows my minds.

Like... you can believe that Clinton was a shot candidate and be upset that the sitting president was pretty clearly working with Russia to influence the election.

clintons have always been corrupt too and they began setting the stage for her presidency back in 2013 and 2014.
election was only tight because of her campaigns major faults. clinton hardly campaigned compared to trump - particularly in the key rust belt states that lost her the election - and had mainstream media outlets generally in her favor. dnc leaks and email controversy definitely hurt her chances, but with the former it only proved people's suspicions of her and the email servers were always sketchy. no evidence russia was behind dnc leaks. emails had been known about since 2015 and her team handled crisis response poorly.

comey announcement days before the election hurt her too and far more influential than idea that russians did anything. but at the end of the day she ran an uninspired, lazy presidential campaign without any big ideas beyond herself with the expectation that she was guaranteed to win. the idea that russian interference somehow caused one of the worst turnouts in history to what should have been a lay up election for democrats is really pushing it.

Gotta say I wonder what would have happened if the primary was starting now.

I'm not going to sit here and say that it's not possible that Biden would still be the nominee, because he definitely could. But I definitely feel like the tone of the nation (and the Dem electorate) is less moderate-leaning than it was in February.

Not to say that means Bernie would have won if not Biden. But I definitely sense that there's more buyer's remorse than may be apparent.

I highly doubt it. Biden's support was a pretty well entrenched portion of the demographic, while Bernie's simply failed to turn up. Its not like Bernie's flipped to Biden's during the primaries, so any idea of buyers remorse doesn't really have footing.

And its not like Biden's exactly put a foot wrong during these protests. He's engaged directly with the family involved, set up bail funds, and made visits to protest sites. So I dont see him having lost large portions of his base or them becoming more progressive overnight.

Biden would still be the nominee because the input of black people would be even more heightened now than it was before and Biden won black votes by a landslide. Even though bernie is measurably better, Biden has the black establishment behind him and they basically control who people vote for in their jurisdictions

Trump & GWB are opposites but in the weirdest way possible. GWB had the public presence of some regular "well-meaning" conservative rhetoric while behind the scenes he and Cheney were orchestrating some of the worst decisions in US history, while on the opposite end Trump has some of the worst public rhetoric ever but doesn't actually do anything half the time to fulfill stuff he says

Hol up, first off can one of y'all give a legit source that says Bush is going to endorse? From what I see, it's complete and total speculation.

  • Jun 3, 2020

Also, it's far from a curse when there's a lot of moderate white voters in the crucial Mid West Swing States that would be really happy to see that type of unification among politicians right now and have a decent opinion of Bush.

I really don't see any electoral harm it would do. The only people that wouldn't like it are the people who already don't like Biden.
