just finished a dinner tryna convince my girls mom and step dad to vote bernie
mom seems like she will but step dad , ironically big union guy and thinks the whole system is corrupt - seemed to refuse to vote for him just bc he thinks the establishment just can’t be beat. i know it’s sort of a defeatist argument, especially bc he kept agreeing with my point, but it was really frustrating for me personally (it was all very productive discourse tho)
like he kept saying “push back against the banks, the establishment - they gonna push back too and bam, that’s all these people unemployed.” i kept tryna tell him THATS how they keep us in a stranglehold and hostage situation - and that to move forward with REAL change that will always be a situation we have to face, bc the system is stacked.
but what’s the alternative? keep it up forever KNOWING you are being held hostage and never triggering that initial push back to enact real change ??? he dead ass seemed like that was the best alternative (imo selfishly, since he is top of his union and has what HE needs) but it’s his vote - i just hoped i gave him pause at least
Months ago I never would have thought I’d be saying this, but I cast a vote for Bernard this morning
my brother

what state?
these polls are fkn depressing man
I mean in all likelihood this thing will be all but over after tomorrow. And then we'll hear a bunch of propaganda about how America isn't ready for "radical" politics, how young people still don't vote. and how we have to now unify around another uninspiring neoliberal centrist. And Americas empire will be one step closer to crumbling
the young people came out in 2016 for Bernie in Michigan but looking at these polls Bernie needs even more youth support than last time
it doesn't look good but he maybe able to keep it close
Social democracy is the system capitalists push to prevent socialism
social democracy is so flawless that it relies on one class to voluntarily benefit another with opposed interests
Social democracy is the real centrist platform bcus it actually provides results
Like hey u wanna make money? Cool capitalism exists
Hey u dnt like poverty, people not hving healthcare or education, a livable min wage? Cool we’ll take care of that
But the greed of the elites knows no bounds
why not just not have elites

joe makes up so much stuff
There’s no nonviolent way to do that
there's no nonviolent way to operate under capitalism either
there's no nonviolent way to operate under capitalism either
I agree
Hence social democracy

We must eat the billionaires, it’s the only way
I agree
Hence social democracy
You realize social democracy is just reforms...within capitalism right? do you think if america suddenly became a social democracy tomorrow that capitalism would be over and there'd be no more exploitation of the global south?

I dnt want capitalism to be over
Elaborate on yr second point

what's there to elaborate on? capitalism relies on the exploitation of the global south for labor.

If yr getting into wallerstein and world systems theory and all that idk if i buy into that man
Capitalism has definitely shown one thing is the ability for individual countries to become extremely wealthy on their own
There’s enough human capital in developing countries to achieve prosperity
Not gonna sit here and pretend ik the answer to world poverty but ye
capitalism relies on economic growth even beyomd industrialization. Therefore exponentially more resources are used and you destroy the environment. You'd need a perpetuum mobile type of renewable resources, which becomes expotentially more efficient at the same rate as economic growth.

this isn't about any sort of theory lmao. its a fact that capitalism is a global economic system. we import goods from all over the world and in those markets exploitation is rampant. even here in america, exploitation is rampant because workers do not own their labor.
race to the bottom is a pretty easy concept to understand
y'know sometimes i read some things from honest to god socialists about how social democrats and progressives are our allies who need to be worked with because at the core they can correctly diagnose that capitalism is a problem but just dont go far enough in their remedies, and that they work from a place of genuineness in wanting to help the less privileged.
then i get on ktt and read some s*** like this and im wondering if any of that is true lmao
