Agrarian societies in many places are indeed in extreme poverty only because the people in these places often can only afford to feed themselves and not much else. I don’t see how the system of capitalism spreads disease and overpopulation in itself. Inequality is a problem, yeah, but here’s the thing. Socialist countries still have poverty and in the best free market economies poor people are still given the social welfare needed to live a more comfortable life than in impoverished countries.

If happiness is higher in poor countries, that doesn’t mean they should remain poor or we should join them in poverty. One of the Scandinavian countries is like the “happiest” country and one of the poor Eastern European ones is the saddest. And a lot of these countries, especially in Africa, don’t trust their communities as much as you think they do lol

Coronavirus is a direct example of Capitalism spreading disease. How do you think its spread so fast? Because of the mass transportation infrastructure in the world. Because of overpopulation. Because of poor environmental health. It would be impossible for something to spread like this if global capitalism wasn't so interconnected.

Onto the other point, under capitalism there is no sense of community. It's just dog eat dog, get a bigger car than my neighbor, which one of my friends is doing well in life, I hope my wife doesn't divorce me for a rich man when lose my job, etc.

Not saying s*** in Africa is peachy clean, but for example in Cuba, despite having an embargo thats starved their people for years, people still sing dance have higher life expectancies than the US, and go outdoors 24/7.

American people are fat, largely uneducated, and have extremely high suicide rates.

So much for capitalism being an ex machina

I think we just fundamentally philosophically disagree

I just dnt see the technical calculus of wht u call “exploitation” as some great evil. To me it’s just a function

Excess wealth should be taxed and invested in the people

One thing about socialisism i dnt like is how the theories are social science rhetorics written as if they were pure science . It’s too reductive

Yes bro ig theres something wrong w our work not = to the exact portion of the pie but we know what a good life qualifies as and government has the ability to present tht

For me that’s the only important/realistic vantage point to attack from

America could be a social democracy tomorrow, people in third world global south countries are still going to be exploited in order to contribute to america's wealth

you see the issue with this, yes?

  • Mar 10, 2020

Also, even then we aren't starting from point zero.

You can point to denmark, wherever you like. all of those social democracies combined aren't as consequential to the world as America.

  • Mar 10, 2020

Being poor is subjective as long as you have food, shelter, and clothing over your body. We dont need a lot to be happy

If you’re advocating for socialism, then this cross global communication and travel will be needed for the maintenance of that system so idk what else there is to do about that. Some countries have more resources than others, what other way besides trade can these countries not have massive disparities?

There is absolutely a sense of community in capitalism, you’re living in one right now. If you want to feel more interconnected go move to a small town, they still exist and will indefinitely. And like I said it’s not like people in non capitalist societies are all nice to each other

Cubans are not being starved by an embargo, the government is free to trade with countries that aren’t the US and the embargo doesn’t even cover food products

“Extremely high suicide rates” compared to where. And America has one of the highest college degree attainment rates in the world. The real countries with lower education rates are the poor countries who have not yet embraced the global free market

Obviously capitalism isn’t some perfect system, but the free market by and large has provided people a better living standard than those that came before us

    Synopsis

I mean in all likelihood this thing will be all but over after tomorrow. And then we'll hear a bunch of propaganda about how America isn't ready for "radical" politics, how young people still don't vote. and how we have to now unify around another uninspiring neoliberal centrist. And Americas empire will be one step closer to crumbling

I mean it's true that young ppl don't vote. if they did Bernie would be winning, and that is the sad truth.

its just blowing my mind how bernie is losing states he won in 2016.

A socialist society could still be attained through isolationism, electricity is an omnipresent resource throughout the Earth. As is water and wind.

KTT and the internet is hardly a sense of community. I grew up during the last age of where kids would go play outside and spend hours at each others house in play or boredom.
All of my memories made have been without the use of the internet or any sort of capitalist vehicle. Its just been through living life and spending it with good people.

You point to college degree attainment, we have a student loan bubble thats about to burst. Most of the jobs people try and go for in college are oversaturated and exist only to uphold the capitalist system. Going to college is not a barometer for a succesful society, its just a supplementary thing thats been normalized. Americans don't protest for prolonged periods of time like the people of France do. What good is our education people if we can't teach people to stick up for their inherent rights? Our education system is just a means to pacify people and keep them obedient to structural hierarchies in capitalism.

So the philosophy I'm talking about is more anarcho primitivist. Human beings have existed in agrarian societies for centuries longer than the Industrial revolution and afterwards. We are not evolved for the way things are now, hence high suicide rates.

    macrotrends.net/countries/USA/united-states/suicide-rate

This link and others corroborate that the highest suicide rates are in wealthy countries and not poor ones. Keeping up the Joneses just puts everyone down

We need more than electricity to support the lifestyle we live now

I didn’t specifically mean ktt (although it low key counts) I mean the literal city your posting this from

I didn’t bring up college attainment to say that it’s a good or bad thing, I brought it up to counter your claim that Americans are uneducated. They are not

When we were hunter gatherers, niggas were getting sicknesses we get now but dying from it. People constantly had to be on the lookout for potential food sources and things to avoid. If it was a great system then we wouldn’t have picked up farming

apps.who.int/gho/data/node.main.MHSUICIDEASDR?lang=en if you read through this list compiled by the World Health Organization, there doesn’t seem to be a clear correlation between rich countries and suicide. If anything, countries with a higher suicide rate than America are less wealthy

I think you’re idealizing a simplistic lifestyle, but the truth is if people really liked living like that they wouldn’t have modernized like they did in the past

Yeah im not gonna respond to this anymore because i think its pointless but what I'm advocating is not the lifestyle we live now lol. There needs to be fundamental repriotization of values
