-CLB was an average album. Neither classic nor mid.
-Donda was solid but half the love for it came from it being Kanye's "comeback album." It's def better than JIK/Ye but not even better than TLOP.
-Wayne's verse on Seeing Green > Kendrick's on Family Ties
-Most of the newer school rappers lack personality and uniqueness which is why the 2000's and Blog era rappers are still carrying the genre.
-KD2 is still an AOTY contender but, because it's not pop friendly, people downplay it.

I completely agree with all this

isn't "average" the exact same thing as "mid"?
uk rap is criminally underrated. some of the most original and forward-thinking young rappers in the world right now are british.
little simz, slowthai, loyle carner & dave are prime examples.

Nobody downplays KD2.
Topaz Jones dropped a top three album of the year, and the fact it doesn't get discussed on here is probably the biggest embarrassment of this forum this year. Next to caping for Yeat.
I can't be bothered to keep up with the latest rap anymore. I don't listen to DaBaby, Lil Baby, Jack Harlow etc. I've been out since around that Lil Pump/XXX era I honestly can't sit through an entire project of what these new niggas are making
Yes, I'm dusty
Hit-Boys run the last few years isn’t talked about enough. No other modern producer locks in for albums like that. His versatility is insane too
People like Yeat and Ken Carson only get popular cause they Carti-lite. The idea of clone artists is lazy and it bugs me lol
Streaming has made the “business” side of music be so much more in our faces. Lazy collab albums (Durk/Baby, Future/Uzi etc) are such obvious cash grabs. They come and go over a weekend. Deluxe is a new way to get more streams but are just mid leftovers
“Rap” listeners and artists right now who didn’t grow up listening to rap are trying to force the genre to mirror what they grew up listening to instead (nu metal, emo, screamo, etc.). It’s unhealthy and overall bad for rap.
that's what happens when anything becomes more mainstream, people that were on the outside as observers are trying to make their way in too. just look at all the NFT s*** going on. ppl just want to eat off of
rap because it's accepted in more spaces than rock music now. we got Future doing Samsung ads

this aint an unpopular opinion tho
Most rap nowadays doesn’t make me feel anything like it used to. Even just 5-10 years ago new stuff was blowing me away.
Now it’s mostly just like “ay this hard” lol. It’s a good feeling in the moment but disappears real quick.
yeah @op majority of this whole thread lost the plot lol.

I just looked this up and I remember I wanted to listen just based off the cover alone. I forgot about it tbh cause I never heard of bro
Imma save it for my flight on Friday
