WealthyFriendQuan“Rap” listeners and artists right now who didn’t grow up listening to rap are trying to force the genre to mirror what they grew up listening to instead (nu metal, emo, screamo, etc.). It’s unhealthy and overall bad for rap.

little simz, slowthai, loyle carner & dave are prime examples.
the production is nice too. nice change up from what we get from american rap which is a bit stale imo

Just because something is "new" doesn't mean it is good. Infact alot of this "new" s*** isn't even all that "new". It's the usual lyrical content we've heard from Soundcloud rappers of the early to mid 2010s, just with even less effort and more reliance on the production...which isn't even listenable in comparison to s*** we were getting from 2010-2017.

It really is. Niggas just be saying s*** came and went cuz there's a lot of music that drops and they can't understand that we can't be constantly talking about everything at once.

You can preserve what makes hip hop great and still evolve it within its genre. You don’t have to mix with other genres to evolve. That just waters the s*** down
There's a way to blend genres without watering it down. Graduation - MBDTF era Kanye deff proved this.
MBDTF had hella prog rock, electro pop, etc. influences on it.
The difference is Kanye's still a hip hop head at heart and is a huge fan of dudes like Pete Rock, Madlib, Dilla etc.
These new niggas fetishize other genres without doing the proper research on their own genre

No album really came and went, niggas just expect people to constantly talk about a project the way they did on release day which is dumb.
2021 was the best year for music in a LONG time.
Nobody cares about these little white pseudo SoundCloud rappers yall gas up outside of here.
Drake can still make catchy music and hit records but unless you’re really invested in the idea of Drake as a celebrity / brand his music ain’t gonna hit for you like it did in the TC/NWTS/IRYITL years
WSG, Mach Hommy and Boldy James are the best on Griselda by miles
It’s really dope that Kanye can still experiment with sounds this late in his career but he needs albums that have more Life Of The Party - esque records. And by that I mean the fact that some of the best received Ye records seem to be the classy sounding ones where he’s rapping rapping or getting stuff of his chest. I’m not saying his albums should be 100% in this style, I’m saying that this style should be represented more
Kings Disease 2 honestly might be a top 5 Nas album
Rap is still a fairly new genre but a lot of niggas trying to do it is watering it down, and i think in a few years black people might invent a new genre that incorporates rap into other black genres
