Tony Shhnow - Love Streak
Underground isn’t bringing anything new to the game
They are stuck in nostalgia mode
People be regurgitating a 30 year old sound because they think that’s what “real rap” is “supposed” to sound like
In reality the artist who invented the sounds in hip-hop that get romanticized largely did so by accident just f***ing around and being creative teens/20 somethings
Underground can’t save rap if they are stuck in the past
The genre has always thrived when A-Listers who make modern forms of rap are being creative and exciting and that just hasn’t been the case for a long time now
Hip-hop legit feels dead
Rap used to sound the same for a whole decade or over a whole state. Now there are a lot of different trends happening at once. There are nostalgic boom bap guys still as you say, but everywhere you can find guys trying to sound like anyone from anywhere and anytime.
I think the real problem is rap used to speak to distinct experience, of a place and a time, and now we have monoculture. We have the internet. We have the cellphone. These things aren't specific to anyone. It's the reason great director's are mostly not making films set in the present. This s*** is boring.
Kelela album disappointed me so much. Glad people like it though
Your taste ass then

Absolutely. "real rap" or "underground" acts today are just cosplaying 90s boom bap. It's sad.
