They are stuck in nostalgia mode
People be regurgitating a 30 year old sound because they think that’s what “real rap” is “supposed” to sound like
In reality the artist who invented the sounds in hip-hop that get romanticized largely did so by accident just f***ing around and being creative teens/20 somethings
Underground can’t save rap if they are stuck in the past
The genre has always thrived when A-Listers who make modern forms of rap are being creative and exciting and that just hasn’t been the case for a long time now
Hip-hop legit feels dead
i agree with this! the young and hungry artists are the ones who change the game or make an underground wave mainstream, like drake in 09’, rocky in 11’, sosa in 12’, fauni and uno in ‘16, juice in 18’, carti in 20’(wlr), hell even yeat in 21’ (just look at quavo’s latest single).
and the common features almost all these rappers share is:- an extremely fast rise to the mainstream out of near-obscurity
- being dismissed/hated by hip hop heads of the time

May 3, 2023Honestly don't mind 2023 being slow. 2020, 2021, and 2022 were all crazy years. Too many albums to digest. I do wish it was more spread it out but oh well. 2023 a rest year and there's still some pretty good albums out this year
