I feel like this has more to do with the current state of the economy. A lot of layoffs coming after this recent holiday season hiring rush

They have been saying this same thing since 2021

because nobody would buy it if it's right there Available for streaming

People do on Bandcamp all the time. I think that the cost of streaming services offering something like this would outweigh the earnings on their end though

I imagine the payoff has to be worth it, no? $20 is like 3000 streams

Labels thought they had something with streaming but nope

Streaming will go down as the biggest mistake the music industry ever made

Either way the number of audiophiles or people that want to feel like they “own” something or just have too much money to spend will be >= 0

It makes sense to give an option to buy an album it’s just extra free money

(You really think no Swifties would want to waste money buying a digital download and brag about how big of a fan they are online?)

    Layoffs. Bad economy.

I would assume it happens in a cycle so maybe that’s why the topic seems repetitive? I’m not an expert tho

I don't feel bad for the industry. They created this problem. You devalue the product, you water it down, this is what happens.
