    HURRY UP TWO

I thought they would've integrated iTunes into Apple Music by now

They have the solutions they just won't let artist get paid

I mean you can access iTunes from the album page in Apple Music, its not a problem

Labels are f***ing useless now unless you already have serious momentum that could benefit from a machine “push”

The people running labels have no idea wtf their doing anymore either. They think that signing artists who are in the background of internet meme short form videos and have really no musical talent are "lasting acts". It's like looking at "how do you do fellow kids?" In real time.

and I'm not saying that labels aren't signing good decent artists either, but the ones that are aren't getting any sort of push that will actually give them a long lasting career.

    they absolutely can lol

If that was the case all of Dres artists wouldve blown up and not just 50, Em & Kendrick. The people decide who they f*** with and when they do the label gives an extra push

All lowercase name or numbers in their name = they’re getting dropped.

how many artists out there that people say 'came outta nowhere' and now we have to pretend they were always here. these labels still control air time still via playlists dont get it wrong

google albums released under aftermath, from 97 til 06 they had only one album that didnt chart and one gold album; every other s*** that came out from them is multiplatinum. dre can sign someone and never release their s*** same way tde and good music were doing it so its not a matter of airplay

Idk man Ive seen too many artists on majors flop / get dropped to just say that labels decide who we listen to. They obviously have all the budget to put the spotlight on someone in 50 different ways but if they dont have that one song people will still not care

You can access it yes but I wouldn't say it's integrated to the point you can just buy the song/album while streaming all in one

    That's what I meant

  • Sep 16, 2024

The smoke is from the rumor of rappers specifically being dropped

The fire is that “50 artists” were dropped. You do the arithmetic

never understood why streaming services don't have an option to just buy an album in FLAC for like $20

Because no one will buy it lol

The majority of people will choose the more convenient option than the less convenient one

Even most of the artists hate the art and are just in it for money

But most of this site isn't ready for this discussion yet

it's about time to start having this discussion tbh

Well maybe labels will stop signing and investing in these “flavor of the month” artists

they have no other option but to do this sadly

or else they wont make any money

the death of the major label will be better for hiphop than the continued growth of it

    Will it really?

As bad as labels can be, the only reason HipHop reached any mainstream notoriety is because of a start-up HipHop label

Music industry failing. Gaming industry failing. Film industry failing. What else is collapsing?

The entire media and entertainment industry is in trouble right now.

Big media companies are merging to survive.

    It's rough out here.

Sidenote: We're about to go through a mini recession soon.

The average day American is struggling and things might get worse.

    Get ready.

I think it would be better if the best music from all genres was up and up, and no one genre reigned supreme

I think this would lead to more good artists

However the more tired n stale Taylor gets the bigger her fan base gets so idk

That’s basically what the 2000s was lol

Qobuz does, you can have a streaming sub and choose to buy whatever album you wish, and it'll stay on your account, even if your sub runs out.

HipHop going mainstream was going to happen regardless especially since Rock flipped into a majority white genre and R&B was reserved for singers which left a middle ground for black people that wanted to express themselves without any singing ability or practice with instruments

Music is the only entertainment medium where the most electrifying sensory experience isn’t the focus of supply and demand from the art and presentation of it

Video games, movies, TV, all visual art, that’s the focus. That’s why we still choose to pay to be in a big dark room with a big ass screen in front of our faces the day a new movie comes out. That’s why we binged the serialized motion picture format the moment we could. That’s why we frame paintings

And we’ve been conditioned to be aware of this and want it. But not with music. With music it’s nothing more than “I just wanna listen to music”; the heightened experience of listening to music isn’t something we’ve been conditioned to have a standard for, like with seeing a movie in a theater or buying the best console. That’s a problem (rap was sort of the one exception to this in music when lyricism was still the standard, as enjoying and looking to enjoy lyrics adds to the sensory experience)
