RIP Pop, went way way way too young
Man I wish people gave hip hop more grace when it comes to all the death it has seen recently and the pandemic (mass death and injury + disrupting the foundational social aspect of hip hop)
I woke up early on my born day; I'm 20, it's a blessin'
The essence of adolescence leaves my body, now I'm fresh and
My physical frame is celebrated 'cause I made it
One quarter through life, some godly-like thing created
Got rhymes 365 days annual, plus some
Load up the mic and bust one, cuss while I pus from
My skull, 'cause it's pain in my brain vein, money maintain
Don't go against the grain, simple and plain
When I was young at this I used to do my thing hard
Robbin' foreigners, take they wallets, they jewels and rip they green cards
Dipped to the projects, flashin' my quick cash
And got my first piece of ass, smokin' blunts with hash
Now it's all about cash in abundance
Niggas I used to run with is rich or doin' years in the hundreds
I switched my motto; instead of sayin', "Fuck tomorrow!"
That buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto
Once I stood on the block, loose cracks produce stacks
I cooked up and cut small pieces to get my loot back
Time is illmatic, keep static like wool fabric
Pack a 4-matic to crack your whole cabbage
this type of pensmanship can only exist in hip hop
My favorite Nas song, soooooo powerful
Greatest genre of all time
Thanks to everybody who participated in the culture
Man hip hop has been there for me since I was a shorty idk what I’d do without hip hop man. I’m grateful I’m around to witness greatness. No matter where hip hop goes in the near future, it’s always got a special place in my heart fasho.
50 cent played a big role in me falling in love with hip hop. My pops and uncle played a lot of s*** around me but when my uncle would play 50 it was like something magical. He was hard asf and just had that hard image to match the music and kid me loved that s***. I was a huge ass stan when I was a shorty. You couldn’t tell me s*** about 50 and g unit lol.
Ngl for a while I was on some “real” hip hop s*** (not that rap god type s*** lol) from the time g unit was really falling off popularity wise until the time I discovered chief keef. Him being from Chicago and us being in the same age group I wanted him to win. His music was raw and you could hear that hunger in him. He wasn’t lyrical but his sound made up for it. Even after Finally Rich he continued to impress me and he’s one of the goats to me. I love how he put on a generation of other Chicago rappers and now there’s a new generation able to eat because of the foot work him and his peers did over a decade ago.
@Elric my bad but could I ask you about all of this again, really appreciated your response to my first post regarding this
Yeah sorry meant to get back to you was just on vacation then getting back into the swing of work. Will respond this weekend.
Got me into more underground s*** at a young age
I need to relisten to this
