Production wise I agree cuz it's just an enhancement of the sounds that came before. Trap sounds like 90's-2000's southern hip hop and traditional/boom bap beats are inspired by Kanye/J Dilla/ Madlib/Alchemist.

In terms of everything. Kendrick is a lyrically better than TUPAC

    Nah I think it's 80s lol.
90s hip hop can still sound fresh sometimes

But niggas in the 80s was on some zip zap bibbity boop bop type s***

97 percent of this s*** sounds DATED AF. 70’s Disco aged better than 90’s Hip Hop. When I listen to rap in this era for better or worse It feels like the 90s and at least it captures the era better than any other genre or time. But that’s the best complaint I can give it lol.

because late 80s rap and 90s rap is not meant for you, its during an era where police brutality was at a peak

late 80s rap and 90s rap was more of an era that represented what america was like durin dat time its much harder to relate to if you didnt live through it with this music

Most of y’all just don’t have the nostalgia attached to the 90’s the way you do the 2000’s cuz y’all were born in the mid to late 90’s and it shows.

Y’all got amnesia when it comes to some of the s*** production from the 2000’s. But y’all associate that time period with good memories, and the music from that time period puts you in a good space.

I kinda agree, but you also gotta remember Kendrick a student of the game. Just feels weird to pick between Pac and a rapper that learned from Pac and other high level rappers. I would take K Dot discog over Pac discog any day though.

I can admit a lot of beats sounded dated In the 2000s too. Especially lil John songs. But the song with The Neptune’s and Jay Z still smack today

I never thought pac was that god tier of a rapper like everyone claim. He was more of an activist with a good image too me

I guess what I’m trying to say is...EVERY DECADE HAS GOOD AND BAD MUSIC. There’s no particular time period thats absolutely superior. It’s teetering oldhead territory when we say that.

na you right but thematically 90s mainstream rap is COMPLETELY different than rap rn, mainstream rap rn is wayyyy more poppy than what it was back

Sure, and I can throw Big Poppa on at a party and that s*** will get the whole place vibing still.

Same with It Ain’t No Fun from Doggystyle. Homie we can sit here all day and cherrypick the best of each decade. The Neptunes were the best of the best that decade.

    kinda sorta agree with this.

it definitely brings up a more broad discussion about living through periods of time in which the music was created in. i think that extends to most music tho, not just 80's/90's rap and police brutality like you pointed out, although that's an example.

  • Oct 12, 2020

Dre, NWA, Nas, BIG, PAC and more are still timeless.

it definitely extends to most music, but i cant really pinpoint another era in any genre of music that is similar to 90s rap tbh. like when you look at mainstream rap in the 60s/70s s*** was not violent at all and was much more poppy.

then in the 80s/90s it does a complete 180 and thematically its completely different than what it was even a decade ago.

its why 90s rap is just really hard to appeal to border audience if you didnt live during that era.

All music becomes dated eventually aside from rare cases like Thriller.

There’s a lot of amazing 90’s albums like The Low End Theory, Midnight Marauders, Doggystyle, Ready To Die, Me Against The World, Reasonable Doubt etc. and even though they’re “dated”, that’s not a knock against them. They’re still great albums.

I actually consider Thriller terribly dated but maybe that’s a personal thing. The title track in particular is a bad 80s joke

  • Oct 12, 2020

90’s has more goat tier rap albums than any other decade and the classic ones have aged like fine wine
