From what I understand he writes but discards immediately because his huge perfectionist tendencies

  • In 1975, Martin met Dune author Frank Herbert at a book convention and they shared a drink. The meeting was “near the end of Herbert’s life,” Martin says. Herbert had written many acclaimed novels, but all fans seemed to want was more Dune. Herbert’s publisher had just offered him a modest advance for a story he wanted to write, or six times that number for another Dune novel.

“He didn’t like Dune anymore and he didn’t want to write any more Dune books,” Martin says. “But he felt locked in by the success of Dune, so he kept writing them.”

    Martin finishes … and waits.

I ask: Do you relate to how Herbert felt?

“I’m not necessarily tired of the world of Ice and Fire,” he says. “I love the world and the world-building. But, yes, I do.”

    Jesus Christ tho

Absolutely brutal interview for people who want him to finish the series.

(It was a good read tho- I recommend reading the full article on THR)

  • Tbh it does sound like he could still release Fire and Blood 2 and more Dunk and Egg stories, but yea it seems like Winds won’t be completed

Disregard. He doesn't write anything. Not anymore at least. He stopped writing when he saw the feedback to his (real) ending of GOT. Then the fans wanted him to write the "correct ending". What they saw was the correct ending. Disastrously done by the show tho. So now, he has to reinvent the story in a way the audience finds pleasing (impossible) instead of what he planned to do (ending of show). Its impossible. And also, what is the incentive? There is barely any mystery left, since it was all spoiled by his own show. He planned the show ending but cant do it cause it has horrid feedback, because it was rushed. But he cant write a new ending cause of all the foreshadowing etc. That's why he cant complete it.

  • GRRM is like Frank Ocean at this point. never getting my hopes up for what we want to get released but I'll immediately check it out if it does

The show end would be a lot easier to stomach if it had another 2 full seasons to cook. I don’t mind Dany going mad, it’s how she got there that is the problem. Jon not being the one to kill the Night King should be rewritten completely if that was always intended for Arya to do. His Targaryen blood played 0 part other than alienating himself from Dany. Just a lot of things that were rushed and undercooked.

Yea im not buying this being his vision. Maybe a rough outline, but there just seems to be way too many compromises for it to truly be how he envisioned it.

Joe Ambercrombie probably gonna be the one to finish these up tbfh. I think the anticipation and build up is too much for him 15 years later.

he needs to just admit it's never coming out and stop leading everyone on

  • Winds so so soon

I think he’s just gonna go for it as planned tbh

An outline is really different than a fleshed out novel I’m completely fine with the same beats except good execution

Both spoil everything that will come in House of the Dragon yeah

The HotD parts are only a portion of those books though. They're more like a world/Targaryen history thing

Nah it's all stuff from the past except for mentioning Dany/return of the dragons, etc. Basic stuff like that.

  • Wow, I've been seeing a few mentions about this series. Sounds like it's getting pretty popular.
