Egger is so proficient because his movies are based on extensive research. The ideas for his story, dialogue, details it all comes from researching stories of others and combining it organically.

So the story of Lighthouse for example came from a news article about two men named Thomas being stuck watching a lighthouse cus of a storm, the old guy dies while the young guy goes mad. And then he put his twist on it.

A lot of the dialogue came from reading lumberjacks and lighthouse keepers journals and diaries from that period.

The man is just unreal, he spends most of his time just researching just to make sure he gets every detail right before executing.

I know when he said folklore, language and mythology are his passions over cinema even real one

I watch lots of horror but hardly love any of it. knew Eggers was the one about ten minutes into my cinema VVitch experience
