Any tips on how to handle ADHD without the meds?

Concerta made me numb as a zombie back in my school days but i guess the grades did get better...

Idk tbh bro :((( its a hard thing to do but i can recommend microdosing and it will make you feel amazing not s***ty. I recommend looking into it heavily before trying it but its by far the safest thing you could do

Yeah that’s why i was saying its best to look into it first. People who are destined to have schizophrenia and some other mental illnesses it will speed up the process of them having it. If not it’s really amazing tho. Helped me find the core of my depression and helped me end it even after i stopped taking it

Yeah for sure s*** can be useful to some. Ive seen people get weirder or have problems come out of even microdosing tho tbh so I'm always weary of that

One dude i know got heavy into microdosing psychs n pauses n s*** now when u talk to him. Like he needs a couple seconds to process what u said. He wasnt like this before.

Myself and 1 other dude i know tend to dissociate if we try to microdose. Tripping i can do with no consequence but if i got a psych in my system consistently even in small doses can make me disso.

It all depends on ur personal biology tho. Joey Diaz used to take a full tab every week for years n turned out fine meanwhile others end up in psych wards

Work is a huge struggle. May need to see a psych so I can pay attention at work and get projects done. Otherwise, I'm in danger.

What are some non medication ways to focus?

Meditation is the only "cure" to ADHD , and I put cure in quotations because I don't see ADHD as a hindrance but as a good thing . You have more energy than others , you just need to learn to channel that energy towards something productive .

This a really stupid take. Difficulty focusing is 100% a hindrance in life.

I would be able to enjoy everything in general more If my mind wasn't constantly racing

Been there done that, and it helped me get rid of the idea that I had ADHD and further understand that it's literally all in your head. Get to the root of the cause of ADHD and you can easily get rid of it and learn to use it to your advantage. I can tell you've already made up your mind on thinking that ADHD is the excuse you use that's preventing you from achieving things in life so I don't have much more to say here tbh.

Nobody is just born with a "difficulty" to focus

    Absolutely

Saw an ADHD psychologist on campus who said I had it but since he’s on campus and a psychologist not psychiatrist he can’t officially diagnose or medicate me

I’ve always known I had it regardless

Went to two different psychiatrists in America who were some of the worst ppl I’ve ever met. Absolutely awful - one told me I didn’t have it because I could count backwards from 100 in 7s and the other asked me two questions and said I had to do a $500 test that insurance wouldn’t coveR

Finally saw a psychiatrist here in NZ who was fantastic and diagnosed me in an hour and a half. I got prescribed a fairly low dose of Ritalin

It’s genuinely been life changing. In the first 5 weeks on the medication I cleared through my entire to do list which I’ve had building up for literally years. I wrote a 25,000 word policy paper, applied for about 20 internships, organized meetings etc. the difference work wise was absurd. I’m happier, I have less mood swings, I’m more sociable, my short term memory is notably better, I don’t lose things at all while medicated, life and everything I do is so much more engaging and interesting, etc

The only initial side effect was loss of appetite. I’m about 4 months into medication now and while it’s still great I’ve found it slightly less strong so I might change dosage or change medication type

Medication isn’t perfect for everyone that’s incredibly clear but for me it was genuinely life changing and if you’re at a point of considering trying it I would encourage giving it a go
