Didn’t Drake start it with Views?
I mean there’s always been some long albums but that’s the first one I can think of in the streaming era that kinda kicked it off
GNX is a great album but it didn’t save hip hop
it's a chart beast in a time where very recently many people claimed rap was becoming irrelevant commercially
personally i think that narrative was a bit overdone but it's easy to see it as a big win for hiphop
@Himothee look who stole the thread idea

Shorter albums (and songs) have been the prevailing trend for the past decade.
Tf are you talking about

oh so NOW we hate creators mindlessly throwing out projects
literally a different medium
famericana if I don't f***s with a song on a album I can just skip it
Long track albums are only good for like first week boosts
Over time most streams come from the top couple tracks

now you look stupid cus I'll be first to let you when drake drops some trash and I'll also be first to let you know when any other artist drops some trash too
I said what I said because albums are never hitting 80%+ on their songs. idk wth music you listen to but most albums have a handful of great songs and the rest are nothing to get excited about
I would rather an artist I like drop 30 songs since it means theres a much greater chance there will be better songs overall than an artist drop 10 tracks I find only 3 or 4 are great
For the past decade, artists have been vomiting up albums with over 20 tracks generate the most amount of streams and boost their sales.
GNX outselling $$$ last week just signaled a shift. The masses now value quality over quantity.
GNX got 12 tracks and is already 5 months old but it’s outselling $$ 4 You which aint even a month old. Not to mention it's stacked with over 20+ songs clearly designed to farm for streams.
Bro this might be the beginning of the end for bloated playlists disguised as albums. We are TIRED of scrolling through hour-long projects, picking 4-6 songs to keep, just to help labels pad them first-week numbers.
After a decade of this sales-first approach, it's great to see an album with proper sequencing and no filler won out
How did you come to this conclusion when Taylor, Morgan Wallen, SZA, etc have top selling albums that have 30+ songs nowadays
Weak ass bait thread disguised as an a***ysis.
Graduation
GNX
Thriller
Love/Hate - Love vs Money
PND1
Im sure the weeknd first three projects somehow count in this by being less than 12
Subtly those are actually probably the ones if we start deep dive lol
a borderline classic
no
an all time classic
borderline classics
no
regardless tho the ones you did name that fit the bill are classics or borderline. like I said, someone drops a 10-12 song album there's a 90% chance it's NOT a classic and half the songs are mid

I dont think 2016 counts as streaming era.
Concise albums always been better. Never been a fan of them long albums where the artist does different styles to please everybody
More Life the “playlist album”
the bait threads getting worse and worse i fear
What’s bait about this? OP is absolutely right.
