The first thing I saw was people using AI to create custom firmwares for this ~$60 Chinese synth called the M-WAVE FM-1

At this point it can act as a groovebox by itself or even a sampler when paired with a phone app

Now we have people making custom firmware for all sorts of gear, such as the Roland SP-404MKII

Or the Akai MPC 2000XL

Or the Elektron Digitakt

We also saw Behringer announce a new MPC competitor with open source firmware, and the price is set to be $150, whereas a new MPC One costs $800. Undercutting your competitor by 5x is crazy no matter which way you slice it.

Even Akai themselves are talking about embracing the vibe coded software trend with their new MPC Sample and Sample Keys

What do y'all think?
Not all of these custom firmwares/OS/softwares are at the same level of polish as the official ones, but some of the more popular ones seem to be pretty well maintained despite being vibe coded. Plus there's been a precedent of custom operating systems for a long ass time in the MPC space with JJOS being around for nearly two decades at this point.
These cheap devices being able to let more people make music is also mostly a good thing imo, but I do worry that this can become a race to the bottom, where companies just put out poor build quality gear with poor software in attempts to lower the price and piggyback off the community's work to fix their issues.
I'm ready for open source/decompiled FL Studio / DAWs
I have so many ideas for new FL Studio features lol
This is what I was immediately thinking of when all the game and Adobe decompiles started
Change the title of this thread to new music technologies or something though lol

Especially VST and plug-ins. We’re in the golden age for music technology rn
all this great technology yet ppl still making nothin out of it
hobbyists will be hobbyists ! 9/10 synthtubers and tech reviewers make s***ty ass ambient or techno music
Uh alrighty.
@Orangutan tap in i see ai and machines seem up ur ally
at the end of the day, no amount of plugins, custom gear, or whatever will grant u the ability to make good music
this s*** is for people huffing that GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)

I hoard so many sounds and kits just for Windows laptops to always crash within 5-8 years
but it do feel good to always be able to go back to s*** that you would only have from digging and being a gear w**** lol

dont worry i like hoarding sound kits too but thats cause every year i prefer using new sounds while still having access to my old sounds that are reliable.

that's true of everything music-related tbf, i bet like 1% of people who buy or even pirate fl studio actually make anything worthwhile or that gets any play by strangers

Lies on my name I don't even know what AI is plus Trunp said it's called SI now
my homie who’s a producer said people in his group he’s in and in beat competitions, they getting exposed for using AI
(people are playing their own suno songs in the car)

yeah i mean that's a totally different thing than what the s*** in op is about
can't rock with ai music like that
Ugh
I don't want to f*** around and brick my 404 tbh
JJOS guy in Japan still going hard to this day though
Ppl are using ai to recreate expensive synths
Which is dumb cus u still need presets. Might as well just learn to pirate
Now if anyone knows how i can use ai to make 1000 electrax or gladiator (yes im old) presets dm me
Friend of mine who does mixing and production + live stage monitoring has been vibe coding his own plugins and vsts since late 2025 and said f*** these companies
He has a few of them running since middle of this year

You just sound design or make it compatible with generic formatted presets like anything else...
