I just don’t buy the whole “there are more car accidents than plane crashes so planes are technically safer” argument
Of course there are more car accidents, there are more cars on the ground! But, I can get in a car accident and have a chance of surviving. A plane crash you have a small chance, maybe, but you are more than likely dead
Also, if you have a medical emergency in a car, you can just pull over and call 911. Something happens in a plane and you are absolutely f***ed
Planes are nuts. Necessary, can’t dispute that, but absolutely insane
real ass post right here, always felt this way. RIP the victims

It is very human to be afraid and i absolutely get that
A f***ing tin can flying in the sky is a scary thought
But knowing how many planes are flying the sky right now and every single one lands safely all the time is enough for me to not to be afraid of it
The chances of crashing is just exceptionally low. Like I have better chances winning Billion dollar jackpot
On personal level, I don't know single person who have died in plane crashes.. I knew people who died in car or bus accidents
crazy i fly on this airline 80% of the time.
I understand DC's airspace is always busy, but this could have been completely prevented
they have communications at air control right how does this happen
i heard them trying to warn the blackhawk 30 secoonds prior even telling them to fly behind the incoming plane
but no response
There’s this narrative that “planes are safer than cars” because there are far more car accidents. But they aren’t counting it proportionally IMO. Of course there are more car accidents, there are more cars on the ground
Also, they aren’t counting the fatality chance in a car vs plane accident. Sure you can get in a car accident and survive. You can MAYBE get in a plane crash and survive.
I’m bias though i hate planes
you dont see it but there are tons of airplanes in the sky too. go to flightradar24 and see for yourself

Yeah planes are my biggest fear so I am bias I guess. I wish I had that mind state but I haven’t got there yet

It's just mathematical odds using statistics of car accident deaths and plane deaths ultimately
Anyone else DMV based? (From CA, now living in DC)
Anyway the news is just f***ing horrible, friend from CA texted me about it last night minutes after.

I live in DC and I'm at Reagan right now
Elon pushed the head of the FAA out during the inauguration and there isn’t even currently an acting head of the FAA

Sucks RIP
Hopefully this leads to better tracking and communication practices for public, private, & military flights.

honestly watch some flight crash a***ysis vids itll either make u feel better or worse
e.g. youtube.com/watch?v=Cv_48qFhoO4
but either way you'll understand how the flight industry works and all the regulations behind it/what would need to go wrong for a flight to have some sort of disaster
in sullys case its multiple bird strikes causing an all engine failure coupled with a complete lack of training/instructions on the scenario of an all engine failure during takeoff specifically (pilots are trained on all engine failure while cruising)
and in spite of all that he still managed to land with no casualties
theres a lot of vids though, many of which are not so lucky.
Literally went straight in line
https://twitter.com/hillbilly239/status/1884806625598242899That is so f***ed. Were them dudes on a suicide mission? Jesus
Are comms between ATC and pilots really that muffled? Cant understand s***
I always thought the same thing if it was more clear in the headsets or if they just developed the ability to make out what tf they are saying
That is so f***ed. Were them dudes on a suicide mission? Jesus
Definitely was a suicide bombing of some kind

Elon got the ability to do stuff like this
2 of the biggest aviation disasters in our history, and it's American Airlines with both
Also, Trump trying to blame DEI and Biden just means he's probably partially responsible himself for it, but is just trying to distract by pointing the finger at his default punching bag. And the media will run with it of course.
Crazy because I flew out of that airport a month ago
