I’ve never really played Alan Wake but I’ve always wanted to and this looks too good to pass up
Imma have to play the first at some point I guess
Too many games droppin tho
According to the devs, you don’t have to play the first AW to get into the sequel apparently
Alan Wake II is literally Remedy’s DREAM project, and has been for more than a decade, so you just know they’re going to go absolutely HARD.
Even with TOTK and Starfield, I’ve always felt that AW2 is my most anticipated game of the year.
The one thing that killed my hype a bit is the fact that they’re already telling you they have story DLC planned for the game. More gameplay is always good, but I would’ve preferred the story to be wrapped up through the base game itself.
Goddamn I went on a crazy posting streak
I f***ing love Remedy
Even as someone who mostly buys physicals, I don’t really care about the whole digital-only thing with AW2 since NOTHING is standing in my way from playing this banger.

I'm never playing the first one cause the combat is atrocious
And they said that we don't have to
I just waited to play Control on the PS5 and that's nuts so shoutout to them
That's an insane game

1st one at the time it dropped combat hit enough . Its been one of few third person games where you feel human cause you aren’t a killing machine you are a writer

I like narrative games more than people do here
I just couldn’t click with the combat
I dont need it to be action packed, I platinumed Death Stranding
I know whats boring first hand
Its just that, that combat didn’t catch me
Can already tell this is the type of game for me. Day 1 buy

I get you I could see how now in a comparison based view it doesn’t hold . But in 2008 that s*** was fire lol that’s all I’m saying . There are very few games that don’t just aim to make the player a killing machine then make a narrative excuse for doing so . Far from perfect game obviously don’t get me wrong . Same way I understand anyone where death stranding not for them . This even if the combat looks more fluid appears to be the same way in the sense of you are not an action star . The sense of mystery and puzzles more central mechanic ( or so it seems ) . I hope this isn’t a hordes of enemies type game we have enough of them
It’s wild that 3 years into generation we are still saying “ this looks next gen “ when it is now by all logic current generation. We are just so often underwhelmed by the scope of the games

I understand you completely
But since gaming is based on playing it
And its all opinions, so if I can’t past the clunky mechanics (for me) then its hard to get over with thats all im saying

Oh yeah I fully agree I think we all have what would be considered clunky favorites that dont fully stand the test of time so its always interesting to see how they reinvent years later. S*** even Bioshock series falls under this category

I didn’t know that. I was looking forward to Phantom Liberty and Like a Dragon Gaiden the most this year, but Alan Wake 2 was always on my raider mainly because I loved Control and I think Quantum Break is insanely underrated.

Word. I actually TRIED to play Alan Wake when it was on game pass but turned it off a few mins in cuz I got distracted. Never came back to it
But yeah I loved Control. And like I said in my post before this one, Quantum Break was HARD to me lol

I just finished the first game this week and I have to agree with you on the combat
s*** was so goddamn annoying at times, but I still had fun with the game regardless
i think alan wake 1's combat was really solid, but just suuuper repetitive.
hope in this one they let some more time for the game to breath between combat

Lol punk ass
The combat in AW1 can feel tedious because they throw so many enemies at you with there being barely any variation in taking them down.
But if you treat the onslaught of enemies as Alan Wake experiencing a NIGHTMARE, based on the actual narrative of the game then yeah you can start to understand why they designed enemy encounters & the gameplay loop like that. But lowkey that’s some copium to make up for the game’s shortcoming

I wouldn’t be surprised if they put out a summary of AW1 at the start of AW2
to help those who forgot the story or never played it.
