    After Hours

    After Hours sweeps

lets entertain that. who else in the game do you see moving in response to after hours except abel himself? i think there might be an argument regarding his influence in pop these days but this new trilogy doesnt seem to be warping the game like trilogy mixtapes did

theres an argument for this as well, like there was for ty4yswgifh for the 2010s. but i think just being overwhelmingly good hiphop doesnt end up decade defining.

WLR and it’s not even close

Appreciate ur explanation think I get u but don't think WLR is a good example using that definition of post trap

Musically yeah it's taking elements from trap and putting them in a new context like post rock does but Cartis rapping about street s*** on the record, dissing people, shouting out Homixide etc

I guess you could say hes exaggerating and using that for aesthetic, and he does use a lot of pop tropes but I think the albums doing more sonically than lyrically in terms of going post trap. Idk though what do u think

post some examples of posttrap albums you see doing more in this decade. genuinely curious what's out there in the underground, i kinda only consider mainstream stuff for aotd because it ends up with the furthest reach across the game

No other album has been “that album” besides WLR

I say this as somebody who doesn’t care for the album too much these days

yeah maybe under a different definition of aotd, maybe favorite album of the decade. dont see westside's style as permeating further than it already has.

I get it’s an internet nigga album but we all on the internet anyways

Take WLR out the mix and there are absolutely zero “non-internet” albums that are AOTD potential

    At least not right now

I heard kids here in Atlanta playing Yeat albums more than WLR tbh. That s*** just a loud internet bubble.

It’s probably the defining tour of the decade tho.

  • May 13, 2022

Also AOTD usually doesn’t happen til halfway through the decade anyway

  • May 13, 2022

Probably not album of the decade but I could see up 2 me by Yeat getting classic status as time goes by

i mean yeah i agree. his doesnt have that much influence on pop/r&b rn like he did during the trilogy time. but i dont think he is trying to go for that. He is trying to make the best music he is able to do and thats what he did with After hours. But i do think After Hours revived the idea of concept albums again and also, along with Future Nostalgia, the 80s trend. Not that big or important of an influence, but its the album itself that matters
