This album legit sounded like what would be on the radio in the 2010’s and s*** was released in 2004.
It had all the bookmarks for a breakout: Adele level talent, production from people like Timbaland and props from people like Elton John.
But that hack LA Reid and the c***s at Island Def Jam did f*** all marketing for it like they usually did for big artists around that time and it never latched on.
ok this crazy
I mean we didn't expect it. But the kid was clearly going to ascend past where he was at. We should've probably seen it coming he was getting co-signs left and right his sounds was fresh and exciting at the moment. Many people wanted to mimic it but few if any could pull it off like him.
I think kiss land was him trying to have his cake and eat it too. He wanted to make this lush beautiful record that tip toed between mainstream appeal and his old sound. It clearly didn't work out for him I think he got scared and asked for help. That's when guys like max martin stepped in to show him how to craft pop records albeit I believe he's always been capable of it but it's clear he's gotten way better at it, he's found incredible success in that lane I don't think hes ever going back.
Great take
Honestly I feel like he had his cake and ate it too with After Hours, where he created a cohesive artistic statement in which his two main songwriting urges (pop and alt. r&b) were fused seamlessly
I feel like most fans old and new were satisfied with this record
There's so many watered-down Lorde songs/artists starting to be pushed out.
Also Billie Eilish is the most ahead of her time pop star of the new century
Seeing Sounds
MOTM
Stankonia
Imo all those albums could come out today mostly the same and would still be fresh
Eh huge reach
I serve the base and black land radio 6.66 2 def sound like it could’ve inspired WLR tell me what makes it so different? Even his vocals sound like rico nasty and I f***ing love that album trust me
Late Registration is still ahead of our time
i have yet to hear anything in rap as creative as Addiction or Celebration

Idk who Rico nasty is
But I serve the base is really the only thing resembling a beat from WLR
And SPG s*** doesn’t sound like anything but SPG
You could say ya maybe these are like influences but I mean even 808’s & Heartbreak had influences but it still sounded nothing alike
i have yet to hear anything in rap as creative as Addiction or Celebration
real, both in my top 5 on lr
everyone posting views is not what i expected
but fair enough that album is nice to me now
doesn't mean it was ahead of its time
Can y’all explain how WLR is ahead of it’s time?
Oh this one is gonna be Ted talk level who responds to this sincerely. If someone can’t tell carti is a lazy artist, I don’t know if I can have a honest discussion with that person. 😒
