Everybody is different and certainly depends on the context, in conjunction with other factors. Possibilities could include OP’s music taste shifting throughout the years, subjectivity within the realm of art, and lastly, the reception online could skew one’s view on the body of work.
when it pertains to classics, it’s a mixture of consensus, quality of work, what it meant for the artist’s career, influence etc. there’s a plethora of factors that can be weighed away from one’s subjective feelings or takes on the music itself
C2 is considered one of the best Carters and it was the album that really jumpstarted Wayne’s run (if not a prelude to his run, anyways) it features some of his best songs on there and a ton of classic cuts
actual classic projects don’t change on the whim of an audience, there’s undeniable aspects to certain works that stand the test of time, that includes the taste of someone too—a perfect example of this is The Velvet Underground’s self titled, it was released to little fanfare, but it was massively influential and it was later recognized as one of the greatest rock albums ever, that’s an undeniable aspect to that project, it doesn’t matter what people feel about it or what they have to say
What are Wayne's hot classic albums right now @op ?
I’m not getting into a Wayne’s discog debate s*** show..
That album just isn’t as amazing to me as it once was and if I listened today, I would be like damn I remember how cool this s*** was to me when I was like 15.
Again, still a quality album and one I would have no problem with spinnin from time to time
Money on my mind is ridiculous.

The overall scope revolves around OP’s interpretation of “classic” and his perception to the respective albums. There’s a chance he’s tying the premise of classic to his current mood or again, musical taste in the moment. Absolutely one could not enjoy or soak in the music from an album, yet herald it as a “classic”.
I’ll give you a brief example, F&L was in my rotation for about couple years give or take, however I’m not feeling the album anymore these days. I still view it as a “classic” despite the replay value.

This thread is just old, acclaimed albums you don't play as much anymore?
Probably all of them

okay, and im saying his mood is worth chaff because everyone else holds C2 in high regard due to it being an undeniably significant project within hip hop
it’s like you telling me Illmatic actually sucks and it’s not a classic, you can go ahead and say that but you’re the minority, it’s considered a classic for a reason
OP just has a narcissistic and narrow minded view on art, the dude thinks he can singlehandedly determine whether something or not is classic completely dependent on if he still likes it or not, that’s not how s*** works lol

Not “don’t play as much”
Not feeling them like that.
It’s like it’s cool but I’m not like enthralled anymore
When I listen to Blueprint, Me against the world, Get Rich or die Trying, Reasonable Doubt, Ready to Die and so on I’m still blown away to this day

Hmm, quite. If he thinks is does classic is does truthfully classic? I'd say classic does is not what they thought but what we have decided classic is. If all classics are is does classic than is does classic truthfully even does is classic? Ignoring that, even if you thought what is was classic was classic, then you must also accept that what we is does classic could be does not.
I respect your bravery OP
I respect everyone with a difference of opinion and curious as to what some other people have experienced on the same type s***
We all music lovers so I know I’m not the only one who’s got a similar story with at least 1 damn album lol
Let me preface this by saying these are still pretty good to listen to, I’m just not nearly as high on them as when I first listened.
The Cool
Carter 2
Channel Orange
they always say classics have to withstand the test of time and for me, these just stayed in the past. If I were to try to listen today, I’d probably still vibe but back when these dropped , you couldn’t tell me these weren’t timeless works I’d always hold in that light.
Time keeps on slippin slippin I guess
channel orange still timeless

Yeah I totally get what you mean. My list is way too long but notably: In The Zone by Britney Spears. Loved that album to death. Now it falls flat. Pretty lifeless for her global stature
I went slightly further than you, I think. I started to hate it but nostalgia didn't let me, so I stopped playing it altogether
My fam put me on to this show and I literally cried laughing when he went on the prank show in the prosthetic makeup
carter 2 really one of wayne’s weakest albums people got nostalgia goggles on with that album. i do that with IANAHB2 tho so i can’t talk

I think Yeezus is probably my biggest "I thought this was an 11/10 when it came out and now I'm super lukewarm on it" album, at least amongst albums that other people also consider classics
