I think this gets closer to what the film actually is about but yes, that is the human element of the story for sure. But I think ultimately the film is really about the desensitization of violence, how these journalists literally get off to searching for vile and horrific things to get a rush and to get their story and I think the significance of the ultimate cause of everything in the film is because of society's growing lack of empathy for each other and being more and more fine with seeing each other burned alive, shot, tortured, etc.
That recent twitter footage of that man burning himself alive and there being camera footage of it before any police officer would even go out to help him is all the proof you need for how society is f***ed.
To be fair, there was camera footage of that guy before police arrived because the guy filmed it himself

proves my point even more if anything tbh
saw this last night
v conflicted
granted, part of it was on me eating an edible before the movie, though one thing I noticed was it was stylish with substance/the slice of life aspect was nice, symbolism/metaphors were on point, did a great job of showing how ugly war can be
but damn, sad mf story man.
edit: funny enough, was telling my girl I'd be a war journalist when it first started, but halfway through I said f*** that.
I really liked this, felt like a horror movie like 21 days later or something. It was great to see Sofia Coppola's muses work off each other I hope she casts them together in a film down the line.
Ngl this is a good movie but if this is Garlands last one its a underwhelming one to go out on.
he killed that s***
movie was dogshit
challengers out now
Ngl this did not feel like a must-see theater experience. Felt like I shoulda just dropped $18 to rewatch Monkey Man on the big screen instead of this

I feel like if the movie was more like what the trailers were going for the experience would've been crazier but maybe the movie as a whole would've been worse off
Idk
The film feels less big than A24 and the hype leads you to believe. Its too muted, ambiguous in a way, and has too much subtlety and nuance for the marketing they gave it and I kinda expected all out war
As I'm saying this tho I realize I prolly look like a hater but I genuinely enjoyed the movie and can appreciate the vision he was going for.
