mixed feelings on this, i thought it tailed off in the second half
my favourites:
• absolutely gorgeous movie, every frame of the war states was an absolute picture, it must have taken Garland years to storyboard this s***!!
• I loved how when they pass through the “neutral state” they slow down the cinematography, & its less picturesque, the shots are longer, very clever
• use of sound was excellent, they really doubled down on the detail of making it feel like a photo album
gripes:
• I didn’t feel invested enough in the characters for it to sustain long periods of silence in the final act… felt like it dragged at times (despite how good it looked)
• death of Lee totally took me out of the illusion… in what world do you tackle someone from getting shot & then stand straight up in the middle of the firing range? Ridiculous & forced unfortunately
7/10
well worth watching in 4K / OLED, s*** was jaw dropping at times
I agree w that last point tho s*** was forced af.
yeah this was kinda my only real gripe with this movie -- I also do feel like a central theme in this movie was desensitization but yeah idk he cried a whole lot for Sammy but for Lee he just got up and kept going lol
Her whole death was bullshit tbh lol. She pushes Jessie away then just stands there to get hit directly. I get that the director was trying to get that callback to when Lee said she'd photograph her death but it just ended feeling so forced

completely agree. feel like the moment would have had more depth if Lee tried to get down and still got shot + the photograph(s) that Jessie took would be more sad

As soon as she pushed her it should’ve cut straight to the camera POV so we see her fall in still-frames. It captures the callback to the dress pictures in the same way but then it doesn’t look like she’s just standing there for the audience to catch it
Doesn’t ruin the movie for me though
wow lots of positive reactions itt
absolutely hated this….the acting gets icky at times and it’s a bad plot, last act was nice

Has potential but misses mark by not fully punching
Ending pissed me off but good movie overall
honestly I feel like the young chick should’ve died instead. Very Grimm ending though how it went
So Cailee Spaeny character becomes Jake Gyllenhaal in Hightcrawler
Thought the same thing
liked this way more than I thought I was gonna
You’re the only person I’ve seen praise it
