@op as much as i hate to break it to ya but all the "original" type rap is in the underground and most of it aint s*** u can play around your friends

bars arent the focal point of hip hop anymore its all melodics, cadence, and most of the time flow. mainstream hip hop aint on that conscious s*** no more

once u accept that you start appreciating the new s*** more for what it is instead of comparing it to s*** its not tryna be

    "flow"

triplets on top of triplets wow such flow

Not even no old head s***... these mf's really are bland. Can't put an album together for s*** compared to Kanye, Drake, Kendrick, Cole lol. They make crazy bangers here and there but where are the new school Drizzy's and Kendrick's???

    EXACTLY!

Show me a New school rapper that is capable of dropping an album as good as GKMC, Yeezus, So Far Gone or hell even Kush & Orange Juice

The new gens aint packin no heat AT ALL

No s*** but you can't say that "flows and cadences are focal point of rap rn" when most of these flows are basic af, cadences are robotic and sound the same

  • Aug 5, 2020

niggas are so nostalgic for the old days of niggas carrying around boomboxes on the block and s***

mainstream hip hop aint about that no more. either listen to the old s*** or the new underground/grimy s*** like Griselda, Blu, Gibbs, etc

otherwise get the f*** over it

It's facts, and it's strange, because a generation leap shouldn't mean a leap in quality. We should be expecting some classic albums right about now. But you also have to consider a lot of Young GOATS died, which is f***ed.

    Exactly.

Amazing projects used to drop all the time

Whens the last time a new gen rapper dropped a general consensus classic tho?

Dababy is great for bangers but thats it. Ive been a fan for years and tried to put yall on back on KTT1

He also already oversaturated the market. He dropped about 5 projects and god knows how many features in 2 years.

Lil Baby is nothing new or original. PLS just dont refer to the BLM song or Emotionally Scarred to try to prove me wrong

I guess you could argue that Roddy brings something new to the table but mans dropped a mid ass album with no replay value.

...I said they're distinct from each other

Also, PLEASE show me some of that new and original hiphop that isnt on billboard

I'd love for u to school me. Thats why I made this thread in the first place

The drain gang/reptilians and SLUMS collectives are pretty original, though their music is rough around the edges (literally lol, mixing wise).

Rod Wave is also pretty distinct from his contemporaries imo he can actually sing sing but he uses rap format and has a violent subject matter which contrasts with his vocals.

At the end of the day I'm sure you're gonna find some guy some years ago who employed some of the techniques they use, but all art is derivative and in my opinion they bring their own new characteristics to the music.
