Eh it’s just set in the same world, I don’t think it’s really directly connected to the movies. I’m hopeful.

This is a different story though. This is a prequel from the second age about the rise and fall of Sauron

I mean look at how hobbit turned out, I couldn’t even finish the 3rd one. They should just keep this series alone imo.

The Hobbit as a novel was actually a children’s book - both jaunty and lighter in content than The LOTR and The Simarillion. Jackson took that source material and stretched it out, implementing Hollywood tropes (e.g. Legolas, Kate from Lost as the Elf, and the Dwarf love triangle) to milk a cash cow.

This show is based on stronger source material, with a serious budget.

Amazon paid $250m solely for the rights, and it’s expected the first season budget will be $100-150m. For comparison, GOT S1 had a budget of around $60m.

With all the money Amazon invested in this, you can ensure they'll put more effort into it than the rushed s***fest that is The Hobbit.

Man the money they put into this show has been insane. Gonna be a huge loss if they don’t bring in millions of subscribers from this show.

In competition it will have Netflix’s Henry Cavill-led The Witcher, which already looks so much tighter and steered in a direction.

This still looks rather aimless, in spite of the large budget and huge household name of The LOTR.

Yea, they’ve fixed it up a bit from the past few years. S*** used to have all the free movies and paid movies jumbled together, it was a mess. It still needs work though, I feel like I have to dig through so many s***ty movies to find anything good.

Yea, in a few years they’ll face competition from the Targaryen GOT prequel as well. This show gotta be universal must-watch quality to make a profit.

I think amazon prime video needs to get more ppl using their platform before this comes out

there are still tons of ppl who have no idea it even exists.

But they need big shows for people to start using the platform (and a non-garbage UI). The Boys blew up a bit but LOTR should give them a big boost. Wheel of Time could be a hit too, will have to see how that pans out.
