When they created Mordor at the end of the first season lmao

Oh right that hilarious scene where everything explodes and all the main characters are just charred up like an episode of road runner or looney tunes lmao

What are the derivatives that have lapped it

ASOIAF, and Stormlight Archive, are the 2 that come to mind immediately.

It's not even on a LOTR faithfulness level or any of that fan boy s***. Set all that aside and just from a pure filmaking/characters/storytelling standpoint, if you think the m9vies are even comparable to what was in this show....there's no explaining it to you you just don't get it.

Saying a whole lot of nothing.

I’ll check out s2 soon. But LOTR fans at least in this thread are reminiscent of Star Wars fans. Perpetually unsatisfied. I’ve asked what was wrong with this compared to the movies yall love, and I even gave specific examples of both show and movie doing the same thing yall claim to hate in the show only. But all the response is “if you can’t see the difference then oh well xD”

I went to see all three LOTR movies when they came back to theaters a couple months ago. There were multiple showtimes and dates and the theaters were still packed out with all age ranges. I was surprised to see so many gen z in there. Think those series u named could do that, all these years later?

I'm not. You're saying that these derivatives have lapped LOTR in quality. I'm giving u reasons why they have not.

    Popular = quality?

I’ve been asking for months for y’all LOTR fans actually give me insight onto what I might be missing when it comes to the franchise, but none of y’all ever reply with anything of substance.

I give LOTR it’s just due for being the grandfather of the fantasy genre, but that is really where my praise ends. Many of the derivatives that have come from it, have lapped it, and surpassed what it offers.

Not all the time. But in this case, yes. It's just like how the Top 5 TV shows OAT are always the same. Hugely popular AND outstanding quality. There's causality there.

If we talking popularity Stormlight Archive books, are arguably the most popular modern fantasy books in the US atm. No fantasy author is selling more books than Brandon Sanderson atm.

I see a lot of atm and not enough oat. Seems more like u just refuse to listen to any reason someone gives u and are hellbent on "sticking to your guns" and trolling fans.

again I’ve never disputed it’s popularity. Star Wars is immensely popular in pop culture. In the last 20 years, how many Tv shows, and movies would you say warrants its level of popularity? Quality wise.

What reason did you give me? “It’s popular” I didn’t even ask or dispute it’s popularity

  • Aug 30, 2024

And my questions aren’t to dissuade fans, when I first asked it itt over a year ago it was in the hopes of a genuine discussion, and still is. Idc if you love LOTR or not. That has nothing to do with what I initially asked itt lol.

I actually like the TV show and have not been hard on the contrast of it vs the movies. Not sure if u have me confused with someone else or seem to be lumping everybody into the same category.

I already told u, I pointed to it's popularity as a reason to why the derivatives u named have not "lapped" LOTR. That was our original discussion
