I already told u, I pointed to it's popularity as a reason to why the derivatives u named have not "lapped" LOTR. That was our original discussion
In that post, when I said “lapped” I was honestly talking about quality of the writing. Specifically how well characters are written, their motivations, plots, prose, world building, etc. things of that nature. When I made that post, I had did a lore deep dive into LOTR. Watched like 13-14 hours worth of lore videos on YouTube lol.
I came away from the deep dive feeling kinda like “well, that’s it?” I found a lot of the characters pretty one dimensional. They didn’t really have any deep complex motivations. S*** was really straight forward. But context, LOTR is more or less the grandfather of the fantasy genre. So I’m sure a lot of these characters were probably the first of their kind in the 40s or 50s when they came out. It’s like reading old Marvel or DC comics from the Golden Age to me
I could go on but that was how I was feeling, and what I had in mind when I made that post. Popularity is a given. LOTR is a stable in culture. I’ve always acknowledged and respected it as such.
Saying a whole lot of nothing.
Sorry for not writing a 5 page essay lmao
This what I mean. Bro ain’t talk about anything actually happening in the tv show vs the movies that you could point to and say “this is a bad representation of xyz”
"IM GOOD!" Brilliant dialogue

Why quote me if you’re not interested in the discourse? Just keep it moving lol.
Gonna watch these tonight. is it better? Season 1 went nowhere. I was wrong about it. It was ass. Please tell me this is better.
I can’t put my finger on it but this show looks like 21st century humans in costume where the movies look like actual middle earth dwellers

First ep was much better, much more engaging and eventful, likely due to focusing on the orcs, sauron and adar...I got bored and turned it off half way thru episode 2 cuz it was giving me season 1 snoozer vibes
I'll try again later

If you watch the making of the LOTR documentary you'll hear Peter Jackson say that he wanted his Middle Earth to feel like it was actual history that happened ages ago on Earth but was forgotten over time. That mindset is where the realism comes from.

Cause the budget for the movies was miniscule in comparison to the show and they didn't have to hide any big budget sheen
