Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S1

It's been a while since I watched a Kyoto animations show. As per usual it's really cute, comforting and well animated.

Tohru is adorable and I love her, Kobayashi and Kanna's found family. I like the dynamic between these 3 characters and could watch an entire anime of just them.

I also like Fafnir and Takiya just two dudes vibing and gaming that's cool.

Lucua and Shouta is just weird and pedo. I'm better off without these scenes because it's the same joke and it's never funny.

There are a couple more weird sexual jokes involving children in this show. I don't really mind the fan service usually as long as it's adults.

Wish Kobayashi and Torhu kissed or something but I guess having a lesbian family and them basically being a couple is good enough for anime.

The last two episodes of the season were oddly dramatic I liked it. This anime could've been a Clannad type story if they dove deeper into the characters. That being said I guess a cute and fun anime is what I wanted anyway.

Overall I'd say 3/4 stars? My main nitpick is the pervy humor but there is a lot of it. But at its best it's quality slice of life. Will continue to S2.

Just finished FMAB and what a show

I love how not a single character is left out of the story for any filler or sub plot. Since it's almost a 1 to 1 to the manga everything is centered on the forward moment of the Elric brothers and their goals along with the villains and supporting cast coinciding with them.

So many of themes in the show: race, faith, genocide, religion, military states and magical mechanics don't ever feel explained heavy handedly or is deliberately trying to get me to think a certain way. There is a ton of subtlety done with story beats and also is one of the most unpredictable animes I have watched. While the journey to beating the big bad guy was definitely coming I knew that, I had no idea how getting there would play out and I definitely didn't anticipate some twists in the story. The anime also juggles so many genres; action, adventure, mystery, fantasy, horror, comedy, and drama are all made in to a beautiful little bouquet where it's all presented together but never feels like it's conflicting with one another.

There were some characters I wasn't too huge on, but even their supporting roles functioned more for slice of life stuff and boosting the morale of the main ones so I could get with that. A few plot contrivances kind of happened that could've been executed a tad differently though were usually in line with characters beliefs and in the end was just them making stupid decisions.

The villains are handled pretty well, some more than others but a lot of there motivations are made pretty sound. Scar is one of my fav characters due to his anti-hero nature and the philosophical debates many of his encounters spur. His final showdown with Bradley is particularly poetic, and Bradley's monologue is cold and despotic

Also a fantastic dub with a lot of great roles given to specific people. I even liked Vic Mignona's Ed even though I will very much acknowledge that he's a horrible person irl.
