Been reading this web novel using deepl since the manga that it's adapted to is so slow 🫠 I always thought deepl is very darn accurate but the tl still turns out scuffed. Like the pronouns are always switched but when the sentence is read the opposite is what makes sense. There's no going back cause I'm like 3 to 4x ahead into this source material than what has been adapted
I should just learn japanese at this point...
will only take about 3 years to get to where you can maybe read it depending on the setting, best off if you start now
Considering watching monster on Netflix. Has anyone seen it? Is it any good?
yea its incredibly based
I can understand some of the reasoning people enjoy it, but I think the whole gigachad kind of subculture formulated around Eren in the last chapters scared me away
It scared a hoe away
ie ppl who have completely misinterpreted the point of the character. Those the same mfs who idolize Patrick Bateman or Homelander from The Boys, when the point of the authors is to clearly present said characters as anything but heroic. In other words, they're media illiterate.
I think some of the narrative around AoT itt is corny. Sure, Isayama wasn't super consistent. But to say the series flat out has no good writing is delusional.
every shonen ive ever read or watched fundamentally misunderstands how to handle human relationships. Saying this as someone who has read most the major ones. relationships only exist as a means to an end or a way to push the leads. they have no organic existence in their own world and exist only to introduce drama. it is uncanny. I understand it is written for children and children are self-centered as f*** for the most part but it's f***ing jarring sometimes. Practically no nuance in conversation or legitimate human interaction during conversation. So many exposition dumps.
sayin this as someone who has kept up with OP for like 15 years lol

Long story short Ruroni Kenshin is the best shounen manga and has the best OVA.

Facts
I think it’s because they’re solely focused on plot as stories but you’re right that it hurts most shounen as a result. Even some of my favorites like HxH and AOT suffer from this.

homelander/the boys actually has good writing, aot doesn't

That wasn't my point; it was how dumbasses glamorize characters they aren't supposed to.
Also, that's your opinion, which is valid, of course. But it's a universally acclaimed show for a good reason.

yea i get that and the whole sigma male thing is cringe but at least homelander is a really good character/antagonist so you can see why someone would flock to him where as eren isnt

Well, to me, it's more of the opposite. Because, granted, even in season 1, Eren already showed signs of a problematic character, but since the show framed him as the hero/MC, some audiences didn't pay much attention to said red flags. As the story progressed, viewers found themselves increasingly invested in Eren's journey, and as a consequence, some of them came to the f***ed-up conclusion that his selfish desire for mass destruction was justified.
Homelander, on the other hand, is immediately presented as a deeply problematic villain. Man has been a racist, sexist, rapist, sadist, misanthrope, etc. pretty much from the get-go.
So yeah, I'd argue it does not make more sense for mfs to relate to Homelander.

im not saying hes relatable im saying hes a compelling character/antagonist and thats why people would like him
characters like griffith from berserk, johan from monster, or char from gundam are all terrible people but are very captivating characters whether it'd be from their charisma, looks, upbringing, growth (or lack of), motives, etc
eren barely has any of those qualities
Ppl hating on the entirety of aot just cuz they don't like the ending
i dont think you guys really realize how little sense that ending makes dawg

Na I don't deny that the ending was ass but let's not act as if almost everyone was hyped for AOT when it was releasing be it manga or anime
I been hating on AoT ever since they spent three episodes to move a boulder because the characters were too busy expositing to each other.

Ah, I see what you're trying to say. You're saying people like them in a "love to hate them" kind of way because of how well written their villainy is.
As for Eren, personally, I do think he fits that bill. I think a good part of the writing around him is very interesting, for a multitude of reasons.

everything after the introduction of ymir

People enjoy the usual Shonen journey of a cry baby turn to a spiteful tactical Villian
everything after the introduction of ymir
i like the part where the series tells us that ymir powers only works for those with royal blood only for it to just magically work for eren
