idk i feel like for a thread that has a decent amount of users posting regularly i would expect some kind of engagement for something. only time we get that is when trashing aot or jjk for the billionth time but hey
OK, I'll take a stab at this.
Realistically, not everyone is at the stage, or even interested in, geniunely a***yzing what they watch, and that's OK because everyone cares about different things, but saying surface-level takes like "wow the animation in this episode was great" doesn't really generate any engagement in the thread other than someone pressing the like button. Specificity is a big driver of engagement, which leads into the next point....
Engagement and discussion is easier to spark when it starts with a negative opinion. It has always been like this. Criticism means that the criticizer has to think about why they dislike something and explain it. It leads to the criticizer pointing out specific details such as productions issues, thematic inconsistencies, etc. This means that people who do like the property being discussed have tangible talking points to engage with, and then we get some (theoretically) nice back and forth discussion.
But there is generally no discussion when someone likes something because there's no incentive to a***yze the talking point, especially if the property being discussed is agreed upon to be good. "Guys, this anime that revolves entirely around characters talking to each other, and facing supernatural threats through introspection and confronting their own psychological flaws instead of just punching the monsters in the face has good writing." Ya, no s***. Everyone who watches it already knows it's good at that, it's just affirmations at that point. It's especially true for some of the lesser-watched shows that get talked about in this thread. Lesser-watched shows are gonna be seeked out by people who have an interest in that stuff in the first place, so less room for disagreement. You wouldn't catch dead one of the casual watchers in this thread stumbling on something like Revue Starlight and giving it a chance, but the niche show-watching crowd is more than willing to give the shounen of the season a chance, which means more disagreements due to the wider range of opinions.
Also, the thread is just too fragmented. The niche show-watching crowd happen to be the group that has the people in this thread who are willing and able to properly articulate their thoughts on shows (like, I'm pretty sure the last two meaningful back and forths I've had is me and Scooter circlejerking about Gimai Seikatsu's directing and me and Kat talking about Uma Musume's flaws), but again, that just leads to the problem where everyone has the same opinion and it just results in affirmations instead of discussion (so there really is no point in writing anything). The other crowd just watches the 1 or 2 most marketed shows of the season and aren't interested in writing anything that would generate engagement/discussion anyways. Then you got proper who is on the right track and just watches his romcoms in peace.

Thread also kinda cute and small. But that comes with that only a few shows people actually care enough about to discuss. That goes positively or negatively.
With less people comes less chance that youll have somebody to discuss a show. Im happy enough that 1 person here waches Orb.
I felt like Frieren, AoT, "CSM Anime", Jjk, female characters as topics probably got enough people interested in arguing about. And ofc the ktt2 psyop run with the wind.

Sorry but as a Bleach defender for eternity, I have to correct you and mention that he wasn’t rushed to end it. One of the biggest hoaxes in the western fandom. His health was pretty bad

i agree with this for the most part and kinda already knew the whole "criticism draws the most attention" spiel, i guess what im trying to suggest is a different way to make the thread more engaging than it currently is rn.
morphe's animator breakdowns was a step in the right direction but i think we can one up that. iirc we have at least 11 or 12 active people here, maybe we could do an episodic discussion of a random show kinda like how anilist, /a/, or MAL does. (obviously this is assuming everyone agrees on a show to watch and preferably isn't a current season show or an extremely popular series). this also doesn't have to be limited to anime, we could also do manga as well (this one might actually be easier to accomplish lol).
