hughjazzAgain, the homicide vs mass shooting conversation, and how these have been classified over the years, is a great aspect to dig into, and I’m happy to do that. Although it is inherently scarier and I suppose more evil when the violent acts are ostensibly random, albeit premeditated, often the victims are random. These types of shootings are certainly on the rise, no?
Im not sure. I feel like back in ‘91 alot of the murders that were classified as gang or d*** related would be considered mass shootings with innocent victims now.

it really truly isn't until everyone agrees with you.
I mean all it takes to see a decrease in shootings is tighter gun control. we could just do that. it's a step 100% within our reach and totally possible.
but if everyone's convinced we're f***ed, do you think anyone will believe that there's a possible solution?

in other words, it doesn’t take mass consensus for the govt to act, and they often act counter to what the masses want or would vote for regardless.

The kind of “gun control” required to really decrease gun deaths isn’t realistically legistlatively reachable hence the “we’re f***ed” mindset. Let alone bringing in all the other complex factors.
Like look what happened in the Tennessee State government this past week where they threw out 2 representatives because they loudly and disruptively voiced their disgust on gun control issues along with their constituents.
The establishment has very little motivation(economic especially) to seriously change gun laws.

See; actually I can get behind this. I've always considered the definition of 'mass shooting' to be a random incident where the perpetrator has no ties to the location or reasoning behind choosing where they attack with their actions. For example; what we saw today - although there were mass casualties (RIP) this wasn't an unmotivated attack. This incident is premeditated murder. Since it was a suicidal disgruntled employee who most likely planned this out with specific victims in mind (might need more context on it though).
Opposed to an incident like Sandy Hook or Uvalde, where these mentally ill teenagers with no reasoning behind why: just randomly decided to shoot up a school and kill kids and teachers.
Basically; one is premeditated murder (1st degree), and the other one is domestic terrorism (where there is usually political, insanity, or religious extremism behind it). Not saying we should treat them in any different way, but there is a distinction that the media outlets should be reporting on.
