It’s funny to me how this type of thing was novel and cool in the 60s through 80s because not everyone could record music so “amateurish/ not good” music wasn’t made that often and blew people’s minds to hear lol. Dude is clearly just free styling, just about everyone I know grew up recording similar goofy rants over beats, searching for the next rhyme and losing control, like I know exactly what it sounds like

Not to say it’s trash but I tend to feel like this scene is over-intellectualized when it’s just mediocre white guys who had the resources to record their d*** induced ramblings. If recording was more accessible at the time, there would be a captain Beefheart on every street

    I prefer the Residents

one of the stupidest posts ive seen on here tbh

    Buckleys Angel

The Beatles definitely come to mind. I still enjoy their music and it holds up, but all of the recording techniques that were explored with their albums definitely helped them stay so relevant for so long.

Beatles never rehearsed their albums for months on end in a house with blacked out windows before they recorded them

    Captain Beefheart invented rehearsal guys!

Y’all are way too impressed by this story the Get Back/Let It Be sessions were basically all rehearsals in order to get everything in one take, literally the same concept

Is it the blacked out windows that make you romanticize it more? I know some of the Beatles rehearsals were in a basement if that helps any, maybe I could paint the story as “Paul locked them Beatles in a basement with no electricity and s*** all over the walls and made them repeatedly play the music over and over, and he called this concept ‘rehearsal’”

It’s okay to like it lol. Out of the people I’ve met though, the ones who have recorded a song as good as the one in OP outnumber the ones who haven’t

That’s not the point though lol it’s just y’all are acting brand new to be impressed by something as simple as rehearsing for an album. I say Beefheart ain’t a genius and I get 2 replies saying “but his band rehearsed!!!” Low bar for genius. Let It Be ain’t my favorite album but the great songs obviously is a lot better than ironic meme music. You might as well listen to Cal Chuchesta
