He hasn't made a great project in ages, I'm not sure why he would suddenly come back and make one so soon after a run of mid tracks that didn't gain any traction.

If he stepped away from the spotlight for a few years and came back with a thoughtful response, that would be one thing. But he's already about to put out more BS music, because that's his brand at this point.

I don't necessarily mean the "just rap" album. I agree he will never do that. Drake's not stupid though, he knows he needs a critically acclaimed solo project coming out of all of this.

The lack of traction was due to the Universal situation more than anything. No Face and Circadian Rhythm are legit hits in any regular label-supported Drake era. The Universal situation will force him to step away (solo wise) for a bit anyway. He essentially said that on stage the other day even though that was obvious. Once that's all resolved he'll be rejuvenated imo. Especially coming out of the beef.

It looks like Kendrick hate for Drake knows no bounds. While his is a great artist and his songs in the beef were good he simply won because of the industry’s backing.

Every winner in combat should know when to show some mercy and humility. Kendrick could’ve just stuck to performing his hits and bringing out people like Keem, Schoolboy, Ab-Soul, and Rock, but instead, he turned the moment into something about another man.

The real loser here, is Serena Williams. She’s so upset with Drake that she went up on stage to Crip walk, even though her sister was killed by the crips. She’s married, has kids, and Drake is still top of mind.

Let’s not forget Mustard who went triple styrofoam on his album. Kendrick couldn’t even tweet it.

All this s*** does is set Drake to be considered an underdog. People love a comeback story and this will only make him bigger if he returns with a classic. A man backed into the corner has nothing to lose

Until he reconciles with UMG it’s a wrap, this is bigger than the battle with Kendrick. I don’t know why y’all can’t see that, especially since this is a music forum with people more in tune than the casual fans.

And even if he reconciled with UMG there’s no guarantee that they still don’t try to sabotage his career to teach him and every other artist a lesson.

If Drake creates a truly strong album with a concept he actually sticks with and decent raps/singing, he'll be back.

But his dominance won't feel the same anymore. He'll be like post 2012 Lil Wayne, still putting up numbers but not really being THAT guy in terms of running the rap game like he used to.

A Drake feature used to be the talk of the town regardless if he did it with rappers or singers but none of his 2024 features had any true buzz.

And 100 GBs was one of the more forgotten projects of 2024 despite not even being bad. Granted, it def sounded like loosies he meant for an upcoming project but most of the songs weren't actually shabby. But they still didn't make any real noise.

That's not a good sign for Drake no matter which way you dice it because it's not like his 2024 contributions were actually bad barring the Heart Pt. 6 and the Tupac AI garbage.

If Drake can't get niggas excited over solid sounding music like he used to, then it's clear that his time as rap's commercial ringleader is over even though he can still drop a number 1 album blindfolded.

It doesn't help either that Kendrick and the Weeknd both dropped great projects. Whatvever Drake drops will get compared to theirs even if the record has no ties to the beef(which is likely won't since it's with PND).

Also, Drake is similar to Nicki Minaj in the sense that he is very insecure about not being the top dog anymore.

So, even if he has a great idea for a cohesive and good project, he'll likely find ways to bloat it up or statpad the streams so that he won't be "outsold" by Kendrick and feel like a "loser" on the sales front.

Hopefully, he remembers that HNVM and More Life have shown that he can get the props for solid music even if he gets "outsold" by Kendrick.

He still hasn’t had a song crack the Billboards Top 100 since 2022*. Whether it’s the culture, those outside of it, or both, his music and his brand are damaged. His back catalogue may still get play, but he’s over (in my opinion)
