Sometimes making music is very therapeutic and can help you process and focus.
Doesn’t always need to be about career aspirations

i did. was a trying to be a producer from age 15 to like 25. sold beats online, had a tiny bit a movement with some up and coming artists and had a tiny bit of radio play, got some looks but never really popped off. i got a good friend who is in the industry now as well.

actually i wouldn’t say i gave up, i just lost passion for it as i got older. every time i sit down to try and make something, i just don’t feel passionate about it and stop. i don’t mind it as a hobby now, and once in awhile i make something i think is good, but i just don’t have it in me like i used to

i think that’s ok, not everyone is meant for it. it was my identity for awhile but i bowed out gracefully instead of being bitter

I did try out making beats too when I was 16 but I struggled because I don't know music theory to make good sounding melodies. I could add the drums and mix them though

yeah i bought a “music theory for dummy’s” book and used youtube a lot. but also i had a tiny bit of a natural ear. nothing crazy though. had to learn a ton before things really started coming together

Yeah honestly for me the most progress I made with music theory, my singing teacher and I we did this practice where I had to guess whether a chord was major or a minor chord and I got around 90% correct it's still a bit tricky sometimes

tbh i would say don't even get a theory book to anyone looking to get started. like theory is cool n can be useful but just learning on ur own n training ur ear by messing around in the daw will probably take less time n will make sht more intuitive

I’ve outgrown the desire to become a professional musician or whatever but I’ll always be musically inclined and creative. It’s apart of who I am.

But yea making money off it (in this day and age) I’m over it

Songwriting is dope but it's not a must imo. Many successful singers got their start by singing cover. You'll create someday and if it's not today don't force it

  • I put a good bit into it in 2021-22 when I was doing music courses and the ilk. But my job killed a lot of creative motivation I had, even in stuff I did in much more abundance than music.

I don't personally think it's wrong to say that not all people are at the same level in terms of organic motivation tbh. Some people are gonna create regardless of what's around them - they should be championed for that motivation. I don't think you necessarily have to put other people down who are lesser in that dept

yeah for sure, the theory book really just helped with chords and basic formation of them, after getting comfortable i was able to just do s*** with my ear, but it was a helpful step

Give up on the idea of doing it as a career if you’re not a genius.

Doing it as a hobby is a fun thing to build upon.

Not saying for u guys to quit just dont think its for me tbh

    You mean like making money.

Just make music let the other stuff workout.(don't let your contracts work themselves out nigga hire a lawyer)

So I started doing singing lessons in 2021 and was thinking of eventually making my own music and I did meet up with a music producer in 2022. But I decided not to as outside of just singing I didn't have any other skills like being able to write good songs. I just worried like what if I made a song and other people thought it was trash and I just wasn't sure in general like what genre I would do or what I would write about cause I have a boring ass uneventful life.

NEVER. take one step closer to your dream everyday. do vocal exercises. write a line. but don’t ever give up!

  • Mar 8, 2024

At this point, I'm not sure I could really quit if I tried

I went away from it for 5 years and ended up coming back
