  • Yeah

Battle rapping or whatever has its place

But art for the sake of competition like that is so weird to me & very antiquated for the genre now

Many artists / producers are more dedicated to the art than the competition and you can hear it in the music (not to say either is wrong)

I guess at the end of the day it's about what you're trying to achieve in the end, so everyone can be judged different in that sense

  • Jan 15, 2020

The whole point of "hip hop" is exercising your skills on the mic while trying to be better than your opponent lol

Ok and what do you think about Hov and Kanye wanting to be the best. It drives them even more so why are you complaining

They want to be the best selves, all of the greatest are at competition with themselves, they are actually the least competitive, it's why battle rap is less successful than stand alone songs b

I mean, being competitive with yourself means you're still being competitive. I'm sure when Kanye is on a song with other rappers they're all being competitive who has the hottest verse

    Yall are some idiots

Competition doesn't mean you can't be cooperative. Competition doesn't equal beef.

If anything competition and collaboration go hand in hand

The entire 4:44 album is about self worth/collaboration and not bringing the next man down b

Also I love kanye, I wasnt trying to be funny b it's just a bad example using him because he has almost no competitive aspects in his recent music b

You're an idiot. The act of Jay-Z putting out a record into the sphere of hip-hop is a form of competition whether you wanna act like it is or not.

    I love competition... in sports.

In art, the idea of competition doesn't make sense. What someone considers a good acting performance depends on so much personally.

Example: A middle aged white guy debating with a 20 something year old black guy which movie is better; Step Brothers or Friday. Step Brothers is more likely to resonate with the white guy and Friday is more likely to resonate with the black guy. Its a pointless debate.

Then stop listening to Hip Hop then it's that simple

The competitive nature of Hip Hop is its foundation and inspired some of the best Rap of all time.

You remove the competitive aspect and a lot of the classics are gone

No the competitive nature is a part of the game. It's a part of any game really. Good actors are gonna take up good roles. You gotta compete to make it to the top.

If you don't like competition then you should just never go outside and stay behind your keyboards.

Hollywood is such a false equivalency cus there’s literally only so many spots in a new Tarantino, Spielberg, Scorsese movie, only so many production companies to make your movie

90% of artists are dam near self sufficient and just collaborate with their friends all you gotta do is cater to your fan base & grow through the Internet

    A bit yeah

Any attempt to quantify art is always inaccurate and flat out dumb.

Expressing yourself artistically shouldn't be a competition, it's an expression.
