i think its very very ignorant to claim that phones will not change in the near future... it is quite obvious that technology is going to continue to change in ways that we cannot even fathom currently.

Correct. 2018 model is still compatible with the upcoming Magic Keyboard. Same CPU. 8-Core GPU instead of 7-Core. Nice dual-camera setup + LIDAR on the rear but few use that camera. WiFi 6 but very few people own compatible routers. 6GB RAM is the most compelling upgrade IMO but if you have a 1TB 2018 model you already have that, too.

Regardless, definitely not worth the price of an upgrade unless you are absolutely flush with cash and have a use case for AR on iPad.

Ah ty. Yeah i see no reason to upgrade then. This seems like a small upgrade right? Could there possibly be another ipad pro coming out later this year with bigger upgrades?

There were some rumors that another iPad Pro was coming this fall with A14X, mini-LED screen (think localized dimming / backlight similar to some TVs - allows for better black levels), 5G option, etc...

If you ask me that is not going to happen. I expect the insiders to update their release timelines soon. I thought it was questionable before, but especially with this pandemic it's just not gonna happen. All of their attention and resources will be focused on the iPhone 12. Plus, they're so far ahead of the rest of the game with their tablet hardware already that they won't rush it. I would expect a new iPad Pro with the aforementioned upgrades sometime in the spring of 2021.

My only complaint about the ipad pro is the black levels, so this would be worth the upgrade imo. atleast we’ll get a new ipadOS this year (i hope)

Oh we will for sure get iOS and iPadOS 14 in the fall. I'm hoping for more extensive external monitor support now that mouse and trackpad functionality is fleshed out
