it should in reality cost more to buy a computer piece by piece. But if you watch the old LTT video where they replaced the iMac display, it literally cost them double
yeah exactly Apple wants to control all the parts so they can charge high prices so you'll just upgrade
you can't find any parts OEM without going thru Apple
Apple Watch battery is absolutely fried rn. Charge lasting no longer than 4 hours since Wednesday. Something is f***ed up smh

Yeah fax.
I’d thought the push for right to repair would also mean right to fairly priced parts.
Apple should still make money if you buy a replacement part, but i dont think they should make double the price of the part.
Yeah true.
I wonder how this is going to affect applecare?
Like why would i pay 400$ total to get 2 screens replaced over my term when i could just buy two and do it myself now
because you’re more likely to f*** up the repair if you DIY it

For an average consumer yes. But for a tech enthusiast who builds their own pc's and knows measures to take it doesn't make much sense.

some of these components require soldering and special machines in order to properly repair them
I think this goes outside enthusiasts spectre, specially the ones who build PCs.

Even still, a technician with the parts may still be cheaper than applecare.

I mean Apple's never gonna sell any the small parts, they'll just sell you the entire motherboard
people think the RAM, GPU, Security Chip and SSD are still soldered but the M1 changed that, they are embedded in the SOC there is no way to replace those things separately even if you could solder
Apple is going to move more and more things into the SOC making soldering impossible for most components
I have 3 Displayport 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapters
none of them work with the new MacBook, 2 work with my PC which is weird I think they're using DSC damn Apple for not opening up DSC I know that s*** could work cause it worked in old versions of Mac OS and on the Displays they sell in the Apple store
there is no reason Mac OS couldn't do 8k 60hz with DSC I wonder what's Apple logic, maybe they have a monitor line coming?
getting a 4th one though I've heard good things about hope it works
there is a new dongle you can only order from Germany but it has a Realtek chips that is suppose to convert this and has been shown at trade shows for years crazy it's out in the wild
the 4k 120hz HDMI OLED journey continues
Ordered blue iPhone 13 pro from T mobile and I won’t get it until Jan/Feb. If you don’t preorder things nowadays you’re screwed
I’m thinking of trading in my phone for the pro but if it takes that long, I might just wait, since I’ll be phoneless
Can’t believe there is still no clear all tabs on these phones lol
I'm almost positive there is a way to do this but let me verify when I'm back on my phone
My 2017 mbp no touchbar is dying on me
The 'e' key is coming off and the battery needs to be serviced. I don't have Apple Care and don't really know much about Apple repairs.
Is it worth repairing or would the cost make it more suitable to just buy a new one?
