Idk bro people on ktt are like “I never heard “x” song before, guess it’s not popular!”

Yeah when you don’t go outside or have few friends that happens

I know it's popular but I didn't know it was THAT popular. I thought it was just some TikTok song that would come and go after like a month.

the actual cultural aspects behind pop culture (i.e. the superstar, the hit, the mainstream trend) shrink more everyday as its character as the most profitable end of culture takes precedence over the ability for it to create memories and feelings for the massive amounts of people who consume it

the streaming era has only exasperated this, as fragmented listening habits as a result of new freedoms has led to everyone being able to be appeased by a little niche and not need to turn to what is being pushed by the industry. This leaves pop culture with no reason to exist except as a money machine for those who still exist in a point on the cultural timeline where pop culture truly had meaning, and thus the meat is stripped off the bone, so to say

true that was huge and imo is representative of neofeminist sentiment and became an anthem to a lot of women.

i guess what’s unarguable is that #1 feels less and less with each passing week. like no one is gonna look back and talk about how much they loved 24kGoldn
