Musicians are people that make music
Without a rapper/singer the song would literally just be the instrumental
Your voice is an instrument
Without rappers/singers the instrumental would still be…music?
Without the instrumental the “song” would be spoken word
Which makes the producers the musicians, they make the music
Just my opinion though. I think the term y’all are looking for is vocalist or recording artist
Spoken word might be very similar to rapping but rapping relies on rhythm way more and control over your voice
Singing without an instrumental is still music

Vocalist -> musician
In the same way that
Basketball player -> athlete
Same idea
But I get you tho that post was kinda goofy lol
“Literally instrumentals” so music…lmao

Damn folks called me crazy for saying some ppl think like this
People who ask questions like this are so f***ing annoying
I asked the question because I want too. If you have a problem get ya goofy ass outta the thread.

It is music but a song would feel incomplete without the vocals is what i was trying to say
It's an essential part of most forms of music

Good instrumentals don’t feel like that but that’s a topic for another thread
Wym
I either made a thread or made a post on here saying some people don’t think you’re considered an athlete if you only play one sport

Beethoven/Classical? Jazz?
Lol I get the racial undertones that make people want to defend rappers as musicians and it is kinda splitting hairs but music without vocals is still…music. People typically don’t treat acapella works the same
Opinions. Mofos be hating.
now i do think that if we made a sliding scale among all genres, most rappers that aren't skilled on an instrument or make beats would probably be less proficient at songwriting and song structure than any other genres because a rapper has less to learn. you can achieve a lot in rap without knowing very much about the skill / theory of what makes a song "work". RHCP would wash most rappers in a songwriting competition. but to balance that out you have rappers like Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Post Malone, NBA Youngboy (to an extent), Jaden Smith, Juice WRLD, and countless more who blend pop song structure and music theory with the rhythmic skill of a top tier rapper and become some of the most interesting musicians in the world by making songs that fit into hybrid sub spaces not just in the preference of one type of listener

Lmao who tf thinks that
Trying to say an NBA player isn’t an athlete because he only plays one sport is idiotic
Smells caccy itt
WELL THEY WOULD BE, IF THEY ACTUALLY MADE THE MUSIC.
INSTEAD WHAT WE HAVE ARE A BUNCH OF
I can hear Shapiro in my head and it's disgusting

Idk man but I’ve heard it a lot

Rappers are rappers and that’s okay
You can’t be serious man lol

Yep
It does get interesting though because I wonder what music Gucci Mane would have lended his vocals too if he was born in the 40’s-50’s lmao.
There’s cadence and skill in the vocal s*** that rappers do, they just also need music as do most vocalists.
they’re singers. Singers can be the mfs in your church choir
Are they musicians ?

Yeah the thing about every last one musician you named is a rapper who mixed different genres in their 🎶.
