Remember the writers strike about fair pay a few years ago? This is what they were worried about.

gonna be a sad day when you pick up a new instrument or start taking art classes and your friends think you’re wasting your time when chatgpt can do the “same s***” in 3 seconds.

We didn’t have AI in songs for decades so now why should we allow it just because it’s there?

I completely agree? And using AI is another thing to add to the list for how everything is going.

bet cool, vote with ur ears, its so much great music, i listen to these random ass drum and bass playlists and some of the songs are mindbogglingly amazing

technological advancement in art is a great thing but there’s a trade-off being had.

it’s like when we invented the drum machine. Sure, you could argue that you’re cheating yourself by not actually learning drums, but the MPC unlocked a whole new world of music-making. J Dilla is just as, or even more of a musician in my mind than Ringo Starr.

but what are we getting with AI? You have the convenience of having a finished product without having any of the skillset to do it yourself, in exchange for… ?

You’re just removing the primary motive and soul behind art in the first place. Hearing a beautiful lyric or viewing a well-composed painting is gonna mean less when it’s all algorithm.

Sure technically its output is so bad it’s not even worth discussing

and saying ok what about the future is kinda moving the goalposts

Stop blaming AI, blame the industry

It’s not moving the goalpost when that’s where I placed the goal in the first place

i have criticisms for the industry as well but that doesn’t mean i cant criticize this also?

also Kanye is independent so now label execs are telling him to make AI verses

AI artists are a huge thing on social media now and I don’t think any higher ups in the industry are telling them to do that either

“ You have the convenience of having a finished product without having any of the skillset to do it yourself, in exchange for… ?”

Tells me you have no idea what you’re criticizing

To make good music with AI you still have to be good at making music. Generative AI is horrible at making music. All the AI tracks that are getting exposed are human made with an AI voice changer. That’s it

So you’re really mad at ghostwriting not AI

No one knows what the real issue is, which is that there are artists who are letting their ghostwriters rap, slapping an AI filter on there so it sounds like them, and then engaging in fraud by telling their fans that it's actually them.

agreed but y’all let it get too far being cool w ghostwriters in the first place

  • Rubbersoul

Because music is so easy to access people can’t vote with there ears because these same songs are put on every playlist on the app and if you’re not paying attention to it you’ve just played 3/4 songs off an album which doesn’t deserve it.

Sad that people listen to music like that

It gets to the point where niggas gotta kinda give you the sauce to validate it

AI doesn’t give you anything across the board that you can just drop as a finished product, that kinda is the answer right there lol

that type of machine learning is still so far away gang, we just got here after 50 years of research

you don’t even know if it’s heading in that direction

completely generated AI music may not ever be valued and it may not ever be as good as human made music, but again what’s the point of talking about this when that is not the issue at hand

the real issue is letting ghostwriters slide in hip hop, AI is just a scapegoat in this whole thread

  • Mar 18

niggas gotta get out of AI = end of art my youngin (Gen Alpha) literally just had a party and they were doing arts and craft the whole time Boomers just discovering how to utilize AI and even they still not using it. there’s just the human element that AI will never replicate

That just simply wont happen lol

Anything that you can benefit from from knowing how to play an instrument you won’t be able to take a computer in there and just do prompts

Within the realm of music, I agree

but currently we are seeing AI visual art be validated with AI artists finding success online or even recently being showcased in museums.

I don’t think “well, it can’t do it yet” is a gonna defense, especially when we got people right now trying to normalize it.
