It's still a better draw for a lot of people for Paramount to own just the networks vs Paramount getting what they actually want: the studios AND the networks as a packaged company which catapult them to upper echelon. Politics at the studio matter too.

The point of doing this and rushing to start the bids was to preserve WBD as a single asset Paramount will purchase before the split occurs. They want a media powerhouse to compete with Netflix and Disney, the news companies that have come with their moves are just toppings.

They've never actually mentioned interest in buying just Discovery and I think people are jumping to assume they want to spend tens of billions just for weak network assets. They need IP primarily.

They're the only buyer trying to preserve WBD as a whole unit and force a deal pre-split. Its one of the only companies packaged like this still because Comcast Universal also split into networks/studio assets and they themselves just merged Paramount-Skydance.

If they fail, the alternative isn't simply buying Discovery. They wanted WBD. The IP and studios were the main priority.

Chance is still there sure, but its not a forgone conclusion.

But on the other hand its a family that's in talks for Tiktok US, owns CBS already and ends up with more as they gun for the bigger companies that ultimately have the IP they want. Also a part of a larger right-shift in media as well,

He just ranted at Paramount yesterday over 60 Minutes reporting which will prob be encroached on, he has an idiot running CBS (immediately went on network to praise her), he got Colbert outta here, was hoping to sway Kimmel's suspension as a permanent end, just called for changes to CNN, etc... They'll allow whatever he wants

That’s the thing! Netflix isn’t buying the entire company, they’re only buying the entertainment part not the other part. That side will be put up for sale after WBD splits in two next year. Which gives the Ellison and Trump what they want which is to control the media and the narrative.

I think Paramount very much wants the entertainment side of it tho, which is why they're throwing a tantrum even though Netflix isnt taking it all.

And I would still prefer if Netflix takes the entertainment over Paramount
