I've been using Audacity for a while and i'm not going to FL Studio nor Logic (cause i have a windows laptop + PC), help me out, what do y'all use?
Any tips on how to make my music more raw sounding?
Im really influeced by Moodymanns album Forevernevermore lately and he has this sound thats just so raw and warm.
I put Logic's stock bitcrusher on half the time but i think thats just putting a facade over it. Should I stick to samples and resampling?
I really dont know tbh

just chop freely with no computer to assist u with the tempo, it will give that human error feel and add compression to the sample to the point where it's going to sound trash but stop right before that, that Some Rap Songs feel

EQ, Vinyl Noise, Tape Saturation, Ducking, and yeah thats it. Soundtoys Radiator been making my s*** hit more. I usually put a little bit of it on the Mix Bus

subtle amounts of ringmod and white noise. The free melda ringmod is great.

This is my s***, it's the same as Ableton's errosion.

pick something and stick with it
ableton, reaper, FL, bitwig, it doesn't matter. The driver matters more than the car.
Any ideas on how to get more stereo spread on your bass?
I try seperating two stems for the bass one mono with the highs filtered and one stereo with the bass filtered, but it doesn't work to my taste. You can kind of tell that they're seperate tracks

i guess ableton then ion know, what u use?
logic
well im on windows so
otherwise i would've used that
im mostly on Audacity and chopping on a cdj

Mess around more with the frequency you're splitting at. It takes a minute to really nail it imo. Sometimes I split at 100, sometimes 130, sometimes 180. Really depends upon the sound.
Alright so you've got your channel strip
1. SerumFX, slap on the dimension expander to taste. Blah blah blah the bass isn't in mono, it's phasing etc. You can also use the stock logic ensemble which is great for detuning, just adjust the dry/wet.
change the channel strip to "no output"
Send 1, subs.
1. Cut above 120hz or something, depends on your sound.
2. Mid side EQ to keep the lower frequencies in mono. Check Voxego SPAN while adjusting the slope and hz.
3. Sidechain to kick if desired
Send 2, mids
1. Copy the channel strip from the subs and flip the EQ so that it's cutting below 120hz or something. Remove the mid side EQ
2. Chorus/haas effect/delay/etc. Check the stereo imaging frequently
3. Short reverb. Automate the dry/wet if ur a real 1. I like chromaverb. This can also be done on another send.
4. Sidechain if desired
Note, distortion/saturation before cutting sub will create different harmonics than if you saturate after cutting the sub
Output to "bass group"
1. Slight overdrive/saturation to create more harmonics, this makes the group's feel more cohesive
2. Voxego span to check stereo again
3. Whatever the hell u want, maybe a limiter
4. Mid/side EQ again with same freq curve as the sub group if necessary.
You can even create more sends to isolate certain frequencies and have them spread differently.
Edit: experiment with sidechain before eq as well
Reaper is free and sick for audio editing
but it aint all that on producing or?
edit: nvm its for producing too

You really are a godsend bro.

Anyone know anything about phase issues with effects?

damn thats a little too good, but question with saturation isn't typically better to put it on the tail end of the process. Mix bus, or any drum, synth, bus?

doesn't matter, entirely dependent on the sound
In this case saturation was being used to out harmonics if necessary

jacked most of that from a video Sustance made. None of the advice I say should be taken as a rule, everything is subjective.
How do u fix muffled audio in fl studio mixes? When I listen to my mixes in my Focusrite audio interface, they sound more clearer than when I exported my songs and listen to them with regular headphones.

Alright thanks to this I'm never gonna have a problem with bass again.
Again thank you bro, my s*** sounds so clean and just how I wanted. That Kaytranada feel i was going for lol

One more thing actually, if you use logic's stock distortion plugin, for the mid bass do you have the tone set at like 1000 hz?
I was thinking for equal temperment

just experiment with it, it's a lowpass or something iirc. I normally sweep the frequencies until I find something I like.
Try the different distortions within PhatFX. I really like the Exciter, tube, and soft saturation. Has a dry/wet knob at the bottom right too.
