Junkie XL produces and mixes on monitors in a terribly untreated room, he says that if he can create a clean mix in his room then it will be ultra clean in better rooms
That's definitely correct to an extent - but Junkie XL has spent 20+ years producing music at a professional level. His ears are better trained than mine when it comes to desirable mixes. It all comes down to personal preference.
But yeah, mixing on "lower" quality headphones/monitors can have its benefits as well. I'm on HD280's plugged into a MacBook. They get the job done. My mixdowns aren't to the point I want them yet, but that's not the fault of my gear

I hear you on that, I’m on the JBL 305s with the matching sub but I have an absolutely terrible room, it sounds awful but I find that if I can get a good mix going and then I test it in a car or a friends house it sounds really good.
get an interface first imo. I don't recommend monitors if you have roommates + your room isn't sound treated. Most people produce on headphones, and then mixdown on a proper monitor setup. Monitors in an untreated room can create delay/reverb that isn't desirable.
I don't own an interface, but i've messed around with a friend's. Sound quality is easily 30% better. Way more responsiveness in 3k-7k range. Your computer's soundcard lies to you.
I'll hopefully pick up an interface after Christmas
about to buy the focusrite scarlett solo first then buy my monitors

Does anyone know what am I doing wrong with the mix in this track, the vocals don't sound as good in the car, or as loud as other professional songs?
I think posted earlier in this thread saying that the beat sounds weaker when I bounce, but I think that it's actually the vocals that come out weaker.
Here's the track if you want to help.

I think the biggest problem is your mumbling, i couldnt understand anything you said.
Second is too much reverb and delay which muddies it up even more, try reducing their volume and taking out their lowend
But mumbling, biggest problem

Really was I mumbling that hard? I honestly couldn't tell haha.
So lower the reverb and delay? what do you mean by low-end?

Take out the low frequencies of the delay and reverb with an EQ.
And yeah mumbling and speaking softly made it hard to hear haha

Should I add another eq on top of the eq plugin I had, or fix it on the eq I had?
