are plugins like ozone worth it? even just to speed up the process
Ozone is definitely worth it

Nah, it makes more sense to get actually get your s*** mastered instead of wasting that same money on a mastering plugin. Colin Leonard's automatic mastering service is probably a better investment and it's been used by pro mixers.
Anyone have an idea what Noah Shebib means when he says that he takes the high end off of his samples by lowering the sample rate? How would you do this in Kontakt?

He's probably running the sounds through an external sampler, such as an old-school akai or emu.
Old samplers were all 12 bit - that's part of the reason why they sounded so gritty.
Google "akaizer" and run some stuff through it
Anyone else living for producing and mixing right now? There's nothing like getting a mix perfect

Yo i gotta thank you for this. The plugin degrades the sound in such a dope way, giving you this vintage effect. Really enjoying it

Does the mix for the vocals here sound good?

Yeah it's sick - i've messed with it on drum breaks and vocals, instantly gives you that 90's jungle feel. The guy who's the developer is cool and super dedicated to the project.
Mostly been using TAL Sampler recently because I bought it on black Friday. It's super neat, has emulations of an S1000 and an EMU.

Only problem with Akaizer is you cant export without changing either transpose or time stretch, which kinda sucks. Sometimes you just wanna run a sample through as is

yeah but the jungle vibes
hearing this in a dark sweatbox with a soundsystem
Any special advice on mixing kicks with 808's? Having a hard time and Youtube isn't really cutting it.
Train your ears (Not trying to be rude here)
your mixes won’t be good for a while if you’re starting to mix now. thing u must do is try to understand why, and how to get them better.
also, training your ears is more important than knowing an technique that you won’t be able to do in the best way possible.
always ask for opinions.
gain staging is important.
EQ is the key

also - a/b tunes of a similar style
An 808 might super big in one tune because there is space for it, but it might sound muddy in another tune because there isn't enough space for it in the mix.
I'd say knowing when to compress is important as well. When I first started, I thought I had to compress everything because I read a lot of misinformation online. Can't be farther from the truth lol. Use it sparingly. There are artists who don't compress at all.
You're able to get the same results by clipping and bouncing sometimes too
But yeah, EQ, and if you have to EQ too hard while writing, you should probably pick a different sound instead of trying to make something fit. I used to overdo eq'ing a lot too have like 6 different bands on a f***ing snare out of a dnb sample pack
Gain staging and bussing sounds properly was the biggest game changer for myself too

Facts, remember when I was starting a couple years ago I was tryna get every single channel to hit 0db lol
